I love Frazey Ford but nobody at home in the UK has ever heard of her!

Which version?

My dad's version was by Slim Dusty

AGodinRuins · 22/01/2025 08:11

Right Back To It by Waxahatchee and Every Songbird Says by Sam Beam and Jessca Hoop (the latter featured in our wedding).

I also really love The Choice Is Yours by Black Sheep. Takes me back to my youth living in the States.

Oh goodness that takes me back. I was obsessed that summer

My Love is Like a Gift You Can’t Return - Man from Del Monte

Some Manchester Mumsnetters from my era may remember this one but I’ve never encountered anyone down south in the real world who does!

Birdhouse in your soul by They Might Be Giants

Everyone knows this song surely… it’s a classic.

Fantasy Island, Tight Fit. Had it on LP as a child.

I remember that!

Loving Dog Shit In My Garden...not sure how he managed to get the lyrics "Superwoman Don't Know How To Shit" in there, but bravo!
For weird vibes I enjoy this one. I can only imagine what it is about, but the energy is good
Tralala

I always feel this one is under the radar too - helped with a terrible break-up a few years ago

Silent Night/6 O Clock News- Simon and Garfunkel.

I bought the “Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme” album with my pocket money when I was at school. I had few records and didn’t need to hear that news over and over again, a waste of a good track.

How about “Flowers never bend with the Rainfall” or “Cloudy” from the same LP?

Oooooh, Flowers is another good choice. Thanks for reminding me!

I loved 'Waiting Around to Die' by the Be Good Tanyas, will check her out! Plus noting down others off this discussion...

(I love this dance film, Blush, and the whole soundtrack!)

It was a few years ago now that I was watching TV and an ad came on, I can't even remember what it was for now, it only appeared a few more times, it was accompanied by a song in French with a very weird tune that I found strangely addictive, I managed to track it down via YouTube and it turns out it's a psychedelic tune from 1969.

I'm making a playlist based on these suggestions, it's just come at the perfect time for me to explore some new music 😊

Throwing the lovely Anchor Me by the Mutton Birds into the mix.

Birdhouse in your soul by They Might Be Giants

This was a huge hit! I am certain I've heard it played recently on Absolute Radio 90s (such a good singalong tune)...

I never thought I would see a Pete and Bas mention on MN...! Grin

I want my Baby back by Jimmy Cross

It's a parody about the other victim in the "Leader of the pack" crash. I found it hilarious as a kid and always asked my uncle to play it when I was round theirs. No one has ever heard of it though!
