Vera, ITV. Where is this street?

I’m bingeing Vera. S9, Ep 3 shows this very beautiful street. But no idea where it is. They mention Hartlepool - but TV shows don’t always prioritise verisimilitude so it could be anywhere.

Please advise - I really want to visit it!

I may be entirely wrong but is it in Newcastle?

IKnowWhatImHereFor · 21/01/2025 12:39

It's Newcastle upon Tyne

Google lens says Grey street in Newcastle, which makes sense seeing as it's close to the general area where the books are set.

Grey Street in Newcastle

It’s Newcastle, my hometown. Grey Street, near the Theatre Royale and the Central Arcade.

GhastlyGoodTaste · 21/01/2025 12:48

Oh, that is excellent! Thank you all so much!

And this church? S10, Ep3.

I have been to Northumberland, but not for years. Think I need to re-visit. The show isn’t uniformly enthralling - but my goodness, the landscapes.

My Australian cousin went on a Vera tour. She really enjoyed it.

I think, but obviously I could be wrong, that the church is at Heaven field on the Military Road (B6318) before you get to Chollerford. It also featured in the L J Ross detective novels - "Heaven field".

We live in Northumberland and enjoy looking for places we recognise.

Thank you!

(I have to say I did wonder how the family of the deceased had managed to have him buried in such a tiny churchyard. But perhaps they only had the service there, and the actual burial ground would be further away and enormous?)

Definitely Grey Street I'm a local, you can just make Central Arcade out on the right.
