What's getting you through January

I'm not a fan of January - trying to shift some Christmas flab, save money and be dry-ish - so I've been trying to find things to do to make it bearable.

This year so far - jigsaws and Ted Lasso. Lovely gentle feel-good telly, and a jigsaw gives my hands something to do to get me off my phone.

Also, planning nice things to look forward to - I've arranged a meet-up and lunch with a good friend at half term and plan to book something nice with ds2 to break up his GCSE mock revision that week too.

What about you? What makes January bearable? More ideas are always good!

Going out with friends. I've booked something every weekend - along the lines of a wander around a gallery, a coffee or a walk.
Lots of baking. I've made a clementine cake, some banana bread and chocolate chip cookies (sorry dieters!)
Balanced that out with lots of soups.

I'm all about the cosy (sorry) heated blanket and reading, or crafting and an audiobook. It's a slow month, I'm skint, but try to lean into it.

Jigsaws too.

Sight of snowdrops, daffodils popping up and longer daylight

I have SAD so Sertraline, my SAD lamp, a cocktail of vitamins, exercise and my dog. But mostly the fact that I have no choice but to plod through and dream of spring.

have you had your vitamin D levels checked? my doctor suggested it as a "bit out there, but it COULD be low vitamin D" because of my fatigue and joint pain.
they came back VERY low, and I'm now on prescription full RDA vitamin D daily. it's made a HUGE difference to my S.A.D, as well as reduced my physical issues. I still get aches and pains, but it's rare I have to stay in bed for the pain, or end up feeling like I'm going to throw up from back pain walking around the supermarket anymore.
apparently vitamin D deficiency is incredibly common, and it's quite easily treated.

Last year I put £30 a month aside from Feb-Nov as a January savings pot meaning I had £300 to spend on myself in January.

I haven't actually spent that much but I've used it in small treats I wouldn't normally have
So far I've treated myself to

A pot of hyacinths
Chai Lattte
New gloves
Posh conditioner

Love this idea! Maybe next year.
And also thinking that there's only a month and a bit until spring, thanks to the poster who said that.

@mamaduckbone - I'm so pleased I did it.

It's been lovely to just know the money is there if I want an additional treat.

I could probably have done £10 a month & it would have been enough as I haven't yet spent £100 - although it's also nice to have a small cushion for bills this month
