Has this been featured already? I did look.

Searching for something else, I came across this site,

Does it not say on Kew/ London Zoo websites if they do concession tickets? If not then just drop them an email to ask.

DoloresODonovan · 20/01/2025 23:57

@BobbyBiscuits I obviously missed a chunk of information out of my post - this is the site,
ianVisits

with a long list of reduced entry sites, which I thought many readers might find extremely useful, hoped so.

This list then saves anyone having to ‘phone or email places to ask about entry concessions.
or simply knowing that concessions, reduced entry is possible even for a party of people, especially useful at half terms.

You'd be better to check with the place you're planning to visit than rely on a random website being kept up to date.

@DoloresODonovan sure, thanks. I thought you wanted info about those places specifically. I'd still contact them direct before making what could be an expensive and fruitless journey. They have good customer service teams in the Royal parks and the zoo. The website of which you speak may not have the most current information.

DoloresODonovan · 21/01/2025 00:47

@TheBoysAndTheBallet @BobbyBiscuits you are both quite right - I thought I had found a useful site but it could well be out of date and anyone wanting reduced entry cost can ask for themselves.

I didn’t find what I was looking for which was a little frustrating, at the British Museum, so have emailed, no reply as yet…
thank you both for your thoughtful replies

In general, wherever you're thinking of going and whatever your situation, it's always worth having a google to see what discounts are available.

Most places are pretty good at putting the information on their own website, which will be the most reliable, but isn't the British Museum that you mention free to all anyway?

As well as the discounts for people on UC, examples I can think of off the top of my head:

Schemes for public sector workers like Boundless, Blue Light card, Edenred etc, so if this applies to you, always worth seeing what you can join - often you pay a fairly token monthly amount, which gives free or discounted entry for lots of places.

I have a National Art pass which gives free entry to museums and galleries, and discounts to exhibitions. Some of these are set in country parks, eg Yorkshire Sculpture Park so has wider appeal than just a 'boring art gallery'.

National Trust membership gives access to grounds, playparks, woods etc where DC can run around, plus free parking, even if you never enter the houses. Likewise English Heritage.

There's schemes for 2 for 1 if you arrive by train, or get vouchers off cereal packets or similar.

In short, it's rare that you have to pay the headline price and there's usually loads of ways to get in for less, but I wouldn't be relying on third party websites as my primary source of information, as it's rare that they're up to date.

The British Museum's free. You have to pay for exhibitions and these have various discounts

DoloresODonovan · 21/01/2025 08:11

@LittleBearPad yes, exactly, thanks

@Bjorkdidit I was looking for a post 1.00pm pensioners half price ticket for my Mum at the BM, Silk Roads, for her and parsimonious friend.
I couldn’t find anything but stumbled across the mentioned site and thougnt it might be useful but as has been pointed out 3 times now, possibly not up to date, although at least it offers guidelines as to which venues might offer discounts.

See, the intended audience has not responded, only clued up cultural afficionados.

We are familiar with the YSP (with excellent food and lovely shop)

Your post is well informed and should reach a wider audience.

Not exactly what you were asking for, but wanted to point out that Kew Gardens has reduced entry price for under-30s which surprised and pleased me when I took my two 20-something daughters!

Going to an attraction’s own website is the best place to see what reductions they do, but sometimes knowing what reductions and offers are available in a number of places is what helps you decide where to go in the first place!

Does such a thing exist? If you try to book, I can't see this as an option, eg.

https://ticketing.britishmuseum.org/silk-roads/10434

Whereas, the Tim Burton exhibition (just picking one at random that I'm currently interested in) does say that 65+ are entitled to a concession, so it's probably venue/exhibition dependent

As PP have said most museum entry is free, and you will only pay for exhibitions and events.

I think you will be unlikely to get a timely reply from the BM when all relevant info is on the website. https://www.britishmuseum.org/terms-use/tickets-and-e-tickets (see relevant details in screenshot below)

Not heard of a cheaper rate after 1pm as this is still prime time for attendance.

if you go through the process of booking the ticket options are all there (second image) https://www.britishmuseum.org/exhibitions/silk-roads but it doesn't look like there is a discount relevant to you.

£25 per ticket is really hefty.

your last sentence - well exactly ! Mum insists Kew was free if you entered by the small ‘back gate’ but I’m thinking that was a long time ago, as a child we are unaware of such details.

We love Kew Gardens, at all times of the year.

I wasn’t actually asking for anything, I found a site I thougnt people may find useful for reasons you have sensibly described - now I’m receiving useful information non stop which is unnecessary but certainly impressive.

This discount is offered in the ticket options on the website of the place you want to visit as well. I only stumbled across it by chance when booking some places to visit when we go on holiday in July. I never knew about this, it isn’t well advertised but very glad I found it before my holiday!
