Is Hampstead worth staying in for a 2 night trip to London in December ?

We’ve made it a bit of a tradition to visit London end of Nov/beginning of December and tended to stay in the PI off Goodge street because of its easy access from Euston and proximity to a lot of the tourist attractions. I’ve noticed that the PI in Hampstead is quite a bit cheaper but obviously further out, we certainly can’t walk to Soho or Covent Garden from there (I don’t think anyway !) but I’ve read in other threads that Hampstead has a great vibe in itself. Lots of cafes, quirky shops etc. We’d also like to visit Highgate cemetery at some point which is closeish. Just wondered what Londoners think of the idea ? We were thinking of the PI btw although open to other suggestions.
We like the area around Goodge st because it’s fairly quiet, so accessible etc but wondered if there are better areas…

Well the PI is Belsize Park more or less opp the tube station I love it there as it’s easy to get anywhere, I would uber to Highgate. It’s well worth the tour.

Thanks @EachandEveryone good to know it’s worth it.

We've debated this, and have also for various reasons stayed a bit out of central london. Not Highgate but Putney, Battersea, Richmond, Kew. While I quite like a potter around those areas, nothing beats staying in the centre and being able to walk home from the Theatre...

Hampstead and Highgate area is lovely (and yes, Highgate cemetery definitely worth visiting, particularly the side you can only access on a tour -- I would add a walk on the Heath, Kenwood for the Rembrandt, the Freud and Keats museums, a bout of literary/artistic blue plaque-spotting and famous graves in Hampstead), but it entirely depends really on whether you will want to spend the vast majority of your time in central London, and will resent the time 'wasted' getting in and out to Hampstead if you're only there for two nights.

I used to live near the Hampstead PI and my mum used it regularly for visit.
Very easy to get to Central London via the tube.
It's walkable (if you want a long walk!) to theatres etc in the West End. I used to do that when killing time between work and a Show.
However, bus connections are very good in that area too.

Nice walk down to Camden from that PI, then along the canal to Kings Cross/Coaldrops Yard and beyond. NB the PI is not in Hampstead itself, but it’s not far.
