How many clubs or activities does your secondary school age DCs do?

And how many hours does it equate to?

DD in yr7 and currently does 2, one very low key but the other at a competitive level so a quite few hours dedicated to training.
One of her peers does a different club/activity every day, including weekends.

There's no right or wrong answer, just curious 🙂

Two but one of them is currently 3 days a week (6 hours training total), so it’s 3 evenings a week plus a session on Saturday. I would rather she did less of that one, but she’s preparing for a competition. I’d like to cut it down after and do more of other things. She has a lot of homework, so it’s a lot to get done in a week.

Daughter ice skates probably five hours a week, but more if they are doing a show. Also volunteers about seven hours a month towards her Duke of Edinburgh. She’s 15.

In year 7 we had just come out of COVID so DD decided to change her clubs, before that she was swimming most nights and galas every other month that took up all weekends.

She changed to rugby which is just one night mid week training and a match or training on Sunday over autumn/winter.

She picked up school run after-school groups, DoE, Gifted and Talented, Gym, Student Leadership meetings, and from Year 10 her Further Maths class is after school until 5pm. She also volunteers at a charity shop on Saturday Mornings which I pay her for as she wanted a job to earn money and alternates that with being a Young Warden at a local Wildlife Trust for her DoE.

She's autistic so 5-10pm is downtime or revision during the week.

DC did 4 in Y7 and 8 (1 lunch and 3 after school/weekends), 2 in Y9 and 10.

DD (17yo) plays a sport that typically involves training once a week (2 hours), coaching once a week (2.5 hours), after school club (ie training with school team rather than club team - 1 hour) and a match (1 hour). She also plays another sport just for fun (1 hour).

DS (15yo) plays a sport that involves training twice a week (2 x 1 hour) and a match (1.5 hours). He also does loads of music (2 lessons, 2 school bands, 1 band outside school, school orchestra, various ensembles, music practice).

Both of them are busy but happy!

A sports club most days after school ( in school) but now that's taken up with extra revision sessions. It's his GCSE year.

Thanks for the replies so far!
Both DD and we are happy with the current level.

Meant to add in the OP, did they have to reduce hours or drop any clubs when it came to their exam years?
I know it will vary from individual to individual, but just want to be prepared and hear about your experiences.

They both do a sport and Scouts out of school, and 3 nights of in school clubs (the school has a wide range to chose from).

DD1s sport is just 2 hrs on a Saturday, but DD2s is training on a Friday plus Sunday game.

In addition DD1 is now also a Young Leader for Cubs.

DD Y8 plays netball 3 x a week, sometimes 4 if she has fixtures on Sunday as well as Saturday
Athletics training 3 x a week
She also swims but that's just school squad twice a week

DS Y11 is a runner - he has 2 or 3 club sessions a week, but also runs by himself the other 4 days

DS has GCSEs this year, he's recently dropped rugby, but that was more because he wants to focus on just running. He's very organised with his schoolwork/revision and plans his week to still be able to fit training and competitions in.

My daughter is 12 and does a few different dance classes totalling 6ish hours a week. She is ND so can't really cope with more than that though is considering adding 1-2 classes next year in S2 when she's more used to high school.
