I'm just finishing my first brew, in my usual kitchen spot. It's nice and quiet down here at the mo but dd2's awake, and dd1's about to join me for a brew before we dye her hair, ahead of her birthday celebrations next weekend.

Once her hair's done, we're meant to be having a walk to Lidl for some top up bits and bobs, but my dad has just text to tell me that he's picked up some cat litter for us & see if he can drop it off late morning, so Lidl may wait til later 🤔

Somewhere in the day, I really need to work out a way of making cake sized barricade fences 🙈 for dd1's birthday cake, and think about sorting my lesson for tomorrow! If there's time, I'll list a few things on Vinted too, although haven't sold much lately so it's probably time to take some older bits off too 🤷‍♀️

Tea is bangers & mash with veg and gravy, and we have a chocolate gateau from Christmas in the freezer that I'll take out to defrost later on 😋

Tonight it'll be my usual Self-Care-Sunday scrubby everything shower, followed by a couple of hours with my book, and then an early night ready for a stupidly busy week 💤

What about all of you? 🙂

Dd and I got up about an hour ago, have both had breakfast and I'm now watching Saturday Kitchen Best Bites, while scrolling through MN and dd is watching cat videos on her phone. Ds is in the kitchen, making himself eggs and toast, and dh has just got up and is making the bed. Dh will come down in a minute and make me a coffee. Easy day for us today, washing school/work clothes and a bit of light housework, maybe a film later. I'm making a cottage pie for dinner and a tiramisu for after and I'm considering applying for a new job, so I might finish the application form and then deliberate over whether to send it!

Poachedeggontoastinthemorning · 19/01/2025 10:19

DC is going back to uni today so just getting everything packed up, tissues at the ready as it never gets any easier. Prob not hone till much later in the day and will likely have lunch out so it'll be something on toast for tea when we get back.

Crimblecrumble5 · 19/01/2025 10:26

Hello Lucysmam and everyone. Quiet, at-home day here. My mum is visiting for the day. I'm making a roast dinner of pork, apple sauce, roast potatoes and parsnips, cabbage, broccoli & peas plus apple crumble and custard for pudding. Small portions for me because I'm trying to lose a bit more weight. A walk after lunch, probably to the shop and park. Then getting ready for school, work and the week. Will watch a couple of episodes of The Rig once kids are in bed. Started it last night, it's very good.
Happy Sunday all 😊

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/01/2025 10:27

Morning, all.

I slept really badly and am struggling with painful neck and shoulders, so could do with a lazy day. However, I’m meeting a friend for lunch in town, so I’ll be getting myself together soon. I’ll buy some painkillers and anti-inflammatory gel whilst I’m out and hope they help!

After lunch, I will grab a few bits in Marks and then do not much else later!

Chipsahoy · 19/01/2025 10:30

It’s a beautiful morning here in my corner of Scotland. Frosty and sunny. The dog and chickens are out and barn cats are fed. Teens are sleeping, youngest dc is up and about chatting to dh about minecraft. We are going out shortly to buy chicken feed, it’s such a beautiful drive that both dh and I will go. Then home to some gardening I think and a roast dinner later.

JudgeBread · 19/01/2025 10:31

Sat in the bathroom wrapped in a bath towel (that my husband may or may not have used yesterday, the horror), waiting to dry and trying to motivate myself to get it together to do something today other than drink tea and loaf.

FayKnights · 19/01/2025 10:31

Morning Lucysmam and the Sunday crowd.

I woke up earlier to let the dogs out for a wee, but back in bed with cuppa and said dogs.

I will get up again shortly to get out for a good walk and then back for a bit of a tidy, put on some washing and to make a cake, it’s a really simple school dinner style vanilla sponge, but everyone seems to love it!

i’ve embraced self care Sunday, so will be having a lovely bath later, I get the Liberty Beauty Drop box and always have weird and wonderful products to try, stuff I didn’t even know existed!

Sending a virtual hug to you @FlorencenotRatchet

Taytocrisps · 19/01/2025 10:34

I've had a very busy week, so I'm enjoying a quiet Sunday morning. I haven't moved from the sofa since I got up.

I'm waiting for DD and her Boyfriend to get up. Then I'll check if they want a full Irish breakfast or just toast. I'll nip down to the shop and pick up whatever I need for breakfast.

At some point I need to go to the supermarket and stock up for the week.

I don't need to cook dinner thankfully. We had a meal in a restaurant last night and I could only manage about half of the delicious main course. So I'll re-heat the rest later. DD will be at her boyfriend's house and she'll eat there.

This evening I'm having a lovely relaxed TV night.

That sounds like my dream life Smile

Instead I live in a boring commuter town in south England with not a chicken in sight!

ThirdStorm · 19/01/2025 10:54

Considering a third coffee when I know I really need to get out into the garden!!

A heated throw is brilliant but means I never want to leave the sofa!

Thislittlekitten · 19/01/2025 10:57

Morning.

Was up early picking up DS from my sisters. Took Ddog out for a wet foggy walk. He had fun but is soaking.

DD is just home from a sleepover. DH in bed hungover. To be fair he is never out so
leaving him be.

Today’s plans just mosey about doing chores and reading and lots of cups of tea!

RabbitsRock · 19/01/2025 11:10

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone. Trying to stop eating Galaxy digestives with my 2nd cuppa (1st was in bed around 8 & DH & I have not long been downstairs). I’ve had a shower & washed my hair. It’s a sorting kind of a day today as DH & I are thoroughly fed up of living in a warehouse! Starting with DD16’s “crafting drawers” which she very rarely opens. Probably chuck the entire contents & the drawer unit itself. Also planning to clear the hall, stairs & landing & put away some clothes that have been sitting in carrier bags for ages. It got to the point that DH was struggling to open his side of the wardrobe. Still need to parcel up a dress that sold on Vinted then take it to the Post Office tomorrow. Easy tea of chicken breast in foil for DH, sea bass fillets with lemon butter for me, rice & broccoli. The fish is dated use by yesterday so I’m sure it will be fine. I have a Rattler ( Cornish cider) zero for later. Will watch Call The Midwife. I want to catch up with Friday’s Emmerdale but for some reason it’s not on ITV X. Dishwasher needs unloading/loading & some clean laundry has to go in the tumbledryer as it looks like rain here. DBro coming down later to stay with DF, which is especially good with DM being in hospital. Have a good Sunday all!

zingally · 19/01/2025 11:18

I was out of the house from 8 til 8 yesterday, and when I came home, the pressure had gone on the boiler, so no central heating or hot water. Thought I probably knew how to fix it, because when it went in September, the engineer sort of showed me what to do. But by that point I was too tired and just not in the mood.

Had a disturbed nights sleep, being too hot, too cold, and slightly fretting about the boiler.
Up at 8:30, tried to fix said boiler like the engineer showed me. Didn't work. Watch a couple of YouTube videos and got it going. There were in fact 2 levers I had to turn, not just the single one I thought! The boiler is now merrily churning away, bring the house back up to a sensible temperature. It was 12C when I got in last night.

Put some cheese and bacon pastries in the oven for breakfast. Really nice! Came from Lidl in the frozen section, never had them before, but would have them again.

Then printed off some bits for the private tutoring I do during the week. Then time for coffee and biscuits, and a bit of MN!

Next job is to have a look at some GCSE maths. A friend is trying to get a C as an adult, and needs it for work. She asked if I'd tutor her. I've only done up to Year 6, but I said I'd have a look at get back to her at some point today. Yikes.

Sausages, veg, yorkshire puds and tons of gravy for dinner tonight. :)

Cheersmedears123 · 19/01/2025 11:19

I got a bit carried away last night, got home very late and now I’m nursing a rare hangover. I’ve managed a sweet cup of tea on the sofa, under a blanket with a cat sleeping on me, and DS has been next to me happily gaming. I just had some toast and DH has surfaced to make me a coffee. Then I need to think about fetching the car that I left near the pub. We planned a chilled day thankfully so no real plans. I’m looking forward to a nice bubble bath later and catching up on Traitors.

Indeed, and the sun has forgotten about south England. We’re on our umpteenth grey day 😔

ThisBreezyQuoter · 19/01/2025 11:30

Morning happy Sunday.

Just finished breakfast of poached egg on haggis and now getting ready to visit local rescue centre. Hoping to find an older cat to give a retirement home to.

This afternoon will be ironing and getting ready for work tomorrow.

Soccermumamir · 19/01/2025 11:41

Morning,

Well ds2 had his football match this morning, it was freezing. Home and managed 3 loads of washing, hoovered round and just sat down to a 3rd cup of coffee.

Need to finish my assignment later, then tuna tomato pasta for tea, showers all round and hopefully early night for the next week.

Morning, I love these threads. We're at our caravan for the weekend in the peak district. Just having a cuppa in bed. We're going to have a cooked breakfast, get showered and drive over to carsington water for a walk.
Heading home this evening to get ready for a full working week......

Your username stood out for me.

Today I'm 'doing' my bowel screening sample.

I wasn't going to mention it but........😋

Berlinlover · 19/01/2025 11:46

I’m in an isolation room in hospital as I have C Diff. Today is day 10 of my antibiotic so I’m hoping to go home tomorrow. I’ll probably watch a couple of films on my phone, sleep and eat.

I used to live in a boring commuter town in England too. We upped and moved north a few years ago. I highly recommend it!

@Berlinlover
I’m sorry you’ve been poorly , hope you are back to full health soon .

DilemmaDelilah · 19/01/2025 18:42

Hello @lucysmam and everyone! I can't believe how late I've left it today. Last night was the first night for a week that I didn't take an antihistamine (for amoxicillin rash which has now, at last, cleared up) so, predictably, I was awake for quite a bit of it and slept in this morning. DH went out to get some bacon this morning so we had bacon sandwiches for lunch - yummy - and then we watched a couple of episodes of Patience on the telly. We discovered it a couple of days ago and we're binge watching it. I'm enjoying it a lot. It's also helping DH a little to understand just how difficult things CAN be for people with autism.

I have just booked a swimming session for tomorrow, the first for a month. I've got to get myself better and fitter! A bonus is that this horrible medication I'm on is making me lose weight - just a little - I'm very overweight but every little counts! I had quite a nice swimming costume which was a bit tight, but I think I should be able to wear it now. I've lost about 6kg in 3 or 4 months - not because I've been eating sensibly, just because I cannot physically manage the quantity I used to eat and I have to be even more careful than usual about how much fat I can eat. If only I could eat the salads, fruit and veg I crave I would be on a diet by default!

@lucysmam cake sized fence barricades? For decoration? If so - chocolate finger biscuits? Or matchmakers or those chocolate covered pretzel stick things? I would go with matchmakers - but I used to like the coffee ones they don't do any more! The honeycomb ones are nice though.

DilemmaDelilah · 19/01/2025 18:49

AND - I've remembered what prompted me to post today... I need ideas for an extra present for Mr Dilemma's birthday in a few weeks. I have got his main present but it's a bit boring and he knows what it is.

He will be 71. He buys his own clothes and has a lot of them. He loves gadgets but I think I've already got everything he could possibly want. I have to order online because I hardly ever go out shopping and when I do he's with me. He doesn't have many interests and no hobbies. I'm asking you lot because you're all fairly sensible and a lot more helpful than the average mumsnetter. Help!

lucysmam · 19/01/2025 20:48

@DilemmaDelilah Matchmakers are an inspired idea! Much better than the nothing I've come up with so far 🙈. The rest of the cake is mentally sorted - just needs putting into action...

Thinking of things my dad's enjoyed the past few years (very close in age to Mr. Dilemma), would he make use of a travel mug, or hot water bottle? My dad mentioned both being on his "maybe buy" list before buying though, and takes the travel mug when he goes walking. He had a new, small, tea pot and selection of loose leaf teas to try for his 70th. Along with a variety of vegan cheeses, crackers, chutney, and wine. Erm, does he read? Or enjoy a particular sport?

OP posts:
DilemmaDelilah · 19/01/2025 23:44

@lucysmam sadly, he has no interest in sport and he doesn't read. He wanted an electric rechargeable hot water bottle, which idea has already been snapped up by one of my daughters. He/we only drink sainsburys decaff Earl Grey tea, we bought a coffee machine last year which he loves, we have various travel mugs he doesn't use. The one thing I know he wants is a refill pouch of L'Occitane Cap Cedrat shower gel, but they don't do that any more. I'm at a complete loss! I could just buy him some more of the shower gel he likes but he got a bottle for Christmas - it is the refill he wanted. He won't wear gloves, he got slippers at Christmas. He won't even read a magazine so a subscription is a waste of time. I would get him something for the car but we bought a 2 year old Nissan Leaf last year and it doesn't need anything at all! Except maybe some wind deflectors - he does like those.
