We were here 10 months ago admitted for 4 days, countless tests done on my poor asd boy and eventually diagnosed with coeliacs disease. He started vomiting huge amounts at 5pm and then diarrhea from 6pm, he then fainted at 8pm so we rushed him down here. He's terrified, I'm terrified. I have major health anxiety, complete total phobia and my poor boy has a blood phobia. Thank god my husband is here or id honestly need sedating.

He's had an anti sickness melt, he's had one bag of fluids, he's had an ecg which came back okay, they've taken bloods which even with a play therapist was fucking traumatic for all of us due to his phobia.

I'm beyond exhausted, I haven't eaten in hours but I haven't the appetite due to the anxiety anyway. We're waiting for a bed as they're admitting him again ffs.

I'm honestly a wreck. I'm just looking for a hand hold and some empathy tbh.

Thank you, I'm on a Facebook group for the parents of coeliac children in the UK which is very helpful. The hospital are adamant now that they believe it's norovirus. So far no one else in the household has come down with it but there's still time for that yet.

I slept like a brick last night after such a lack of sleep. Feel so anxious this morning, just want to get my foster daughter to school so I can get back to the hospital and find out what's going on, my DH hasn't messaged me this morning yet so I'm assuming him and ds are still sleeping.

How is he now, op? X

@mumofoneAlonebutokay thank you for asking, he's home now. Just resting and trying to recover.

Oh amazing! Was it notorious? Well done for getting through it 🥰

Glad you are home but it is absolutely ok to say to DH that, where he can, he needs to do hospital visits without you.

Yes, we want to be there but their other parent is just as capable. Having been in a situation where dh and I were having to take turns, it's difficult but definitely better than 2 stressed, anxious parents. Plus, if you end up having a lot of hospital appointments and visits, you're both going to need time off so this shares the burden of parental/annual leave requests.

Nogodsnomasters · 21/01/2025 13:02

Well it wasn't gluten, it was definitely norovirus as both me and my DH came down with it last night. Worst night of my life.

Thank you, really struggling. DS is resting on bed and still very weak and tired, sporadically nibbling on dry GF rice Krispies but hasn't thrown up in nearly 48hrs.

I feel like I'm ready for baby Jesus to take me.

Noro is grim. You have my sympathies.

Nogodsnomasters · 21/01/2025 18:12

Does anyone know is it normal for resting heart rate to rise when you have a temperature? I very rarely get fevers and the last one was over 2yrs ago so I can't remember ever noticing this before but I have a fever right now and my resting heart rate is between 95-105, it's usually 70-80 when I'm well. Is this something I need to worry about or not? I've just taken paracetamol around 30 mins ago.

Oh gosh I really feel for you. First things first ask the staff if there is any food or a hot drink, that are usually very helpful. Sounds like you got it worked out. There’s a lot of waiting about I’m afraid, sounds like the worst is over though, chin up and keep us posted.

Hi, I also suffer from anxiety and phobias (albeit not hospitals). Do you have the calm app? They have a great panic SoS 4 min session which is great. Alternatively google the breathing bubble. Another technique is to focus on something else in the room and describe it to yourself in great detail or commentate your own movements in your head.

Longer term, I really think that you should get some professional help for your phobia. Google phobia specialists uk online. They could really help. Unfortunately you cannot avoid hospitals all your life and going is stressful enough without a phobia to contend with. There are things that you can do so that you're better prepared in the future.

I hope that your son feels better soon. X

Oh, just realised that i've commented on a very old thread.

Thank you, my son was discharged after two days and took a further week to recover. He's been left honestly traumatized by the whole event but we're working through it with his therapist.

Thank you. I've had CBT, talking therapy and take citalopram but none of them have helped with my phobia, it stems from PTSD from my sisters death unfortunately. I really appreciate your comments and understanding x
