If you could live anywhere, for the best quality of life..

Husband and I have been planning on moving to Scotland for a while now. We have family there and want to move for a number of reasons, including more house/land for your buck, his job is transferable, we want to see less people on a daily basis, Scotland is beautiful.. just to mention a few.

We have a small child, and moving in the next 3 or 4 years would mean he would be in early primary.

Husband asked today if we should consider other places, like wales. We have visited wales a lot, we live an hour or so from the bridge. Does anyone have experience of living in both wales and Scotland, to compare?

There are so many other places I'd like to live, but we only have one life and the language barriers would be a problem.

I think I'd chose Canada if we didn't already have a child.

The best "quality of life" for me would be the town where my parents and other close relatives are.
We aren't in a situation where we could move but if we could I would definitely prefer to have my family closer.
It depends if that is important to you.

@Needmorelego that's interesting. I suppose quality of life means different things to different people after all. For me and DH, being far away means more quality time with family as it would be for a week at a time for example, instead of a few hours here and there. When my SIL comes down from Scotland, she stays with my PIL and it's really lovely as we can all be together for a few days.

Don’t underestimate the importance of being near family when you have young children. Luckily we have both sides within 15-30 drive of us and it’s so helpful being able to drop DC off for a few hours or more, visit our parents and siblings regularly and for them to come over too.

DC love it! They’re close to their cousins which I didn’t have growing up and it helps with their development having such a bond with people of different ages.

The thing is we’re all looking to move for greener pastures and a better standard of living overall as well. I guess we’re strongly hoping and praying that if we do move away that some of our family will join us too! Wishful thinking but nothing is impossible!

All the best 😊
