Has bleach ruined my hair ? Pics included

I'm naturally brunette
I used to get a full head highlights every 7 weeks
My hair was wrecked
Snapping
Thin
Awful
So I switched to t section instead
Underneath is brown
The t section is snapping now and feels so rough
My hairdresser mentioned bleaching underneath now to match but I'm scared that's going to get wrecked again
At this point do I just dye my hair back brown?
I've included two pics
1st the blonde bit now
2.my underneath colour

It looks fine to me!

Of course the bleached bits aren't as healthy as the natural parts but it doesn't look frazzled.

I like the colour overall so wouldn't dye the underneath layers.

My only issue is that my greys come through after a few weeks and the dark roots
So she's bleaching them all every time
And it's costing me £130 every 5 weeks which is a lot of money for me at the min

My hair looked like yours a few years ago.
I got bored of it and I had it cut just to above my shoulders, where like with you, the hair then looked mostly blonde then.
I liked it, it wasn't too short and it was a nice colour on top but the condition was not good and my goal was to have it trimmed every couple of months or so until my hair was natural again.
I wouldn't suggest you do that, cos you probably want to keep it the same length.
Like a PP said, your hair doesn't look as bad as I think you think it does.
But from personal experience I get what you mean by it feeling rough and dull when you know it could look softer and shinier.

It sounds strange but when I have the blonde down against my face I feel really washed out
When I clip it back and you see the brown I feel like I look fresher
That's what's tempting me to dye it back dark
Also it's so so dull

Have you thought about getting a root shadow?
That's what I have, dark roots that blend into blonde (balayage?).
In between salon trips, I use a home root dye (Superdrug or Boots)
I dab it along my parting and around my hairline.
I also use a temporary root cover up which washes out, looks like a mascara, for the odd grey that pops through.

You’re not using the right products I d say, it looks dry, but not damaged
Try a mask with castor oil every week and Olaplex once in a while
(my hair is very similar to yours)

Well again OP, if it was me, I would prefer it to be a bit shorter, to above the shoulders, gets rid of so many rough ends, and have it professionally dyed the colour you feel suits you best ( get help from colourist?) then it'll look more flattering and grow out at the same time.

Try grey blending rather than an all over blonde. It’s less hard on your hair and doesn’t require as much maintenance. I get mine done every 3-4 months.

A rebuilding conditioner like Olaplex should also help make your hair stronger and less brittle.

Having it done that often will be ruining your hair. Could you go every 12 weeks which is pretty standard?
Ever thought of a balayage? Or a root smudge as someone else has suggested?

If it were me I would go back brown, much easier to manage, cheaper and kinder to your hair.

tvoffpleases · 17/01/2025 20:49

Think I'm going to go back brunette
My grey roots come through so fast and I just can't keep up
At least with brunette I can top them up at home with a box dye
The prices at my hairdresser are going up and up

A balayage would look lovely, so easy to maintain as well. And I thoroughly recommend salon quality shampoo/conditioner. I go every 6 week and have a full head, followed by two half head then repeat.I never used to buy salon products thinking it was pointless but about a year ago I bought some at and it’s a game changer, and minimal hair washing when bleached.

BobbyBiscuits · 17/01/2025 20:53

It looks like normal bleached hair. It looks not unlike mine. If you're having it trimmed regularly, and you're not losing too much in the shower or when brushing then it's fine to do more highlights. Just use a good conditioner or hair mask.
I'm getting mine done again soon.
