Beginners graphic design course recommendations?

Can anyone recommend an intro to graphic design course please? I've looked at the British Academy of Graphic Design, which I assume is a good course - are there others? I got a bit overwhelmed looking online.

Looking to increase my skill set, not become a graphic designer.

Why graphic design specifically? Is there a goal which you need this for? The recent job report which comes out ever 3/4 years has marked graphic design as dead in the water.

If you just want to improve skillset, I’d actually start with something like lindsey Marsh’s classes on skillshare or udemy, she will give you a great foundation and give you enough skills/foundation that you can then go research/do things yourself and it’s relatively low cost, I’d start their to begin with.

The gold standard for bootcamp/online graphic design learning used to be shillington but the cost is ridiculous and they seem to be having financial issues as they shut down all their in person studios.

I bet there's something on Coursera.

Thanks all. I'm a learning designer and the feedback from my most recent job rejection was that other candidates had stronger graphics design skills.

Your suggestions sound really helpful Paolol. Thanks - will investigate.

No worries! Get a skill share 30 day free (there’s legit always some kind of x number of days free) and try out her courses, use Pinterest etc to look at other people’s graphic design work, I find the best inspiration/learning for me comes from looking at others work, trying to recreate it with a spin type thing and especially for what you’re going for I think that combo of getting the basics and just looking at inspiration will really help

Hey! Maybe too late but I run a course for older kids aged 10-17 called Summer of Design! A few adults take it too.
also I’m a top teacher on Skillshare. If you search for Faye Brown you’ll see lots of design related courses.
its a very rewarding career but do keep up to date with AI.

I’m a Learning Designer and I did an HNC in Graphic Design (Advertising) years ago. It’s been really useful as I developed a wide range of skills in using Adobe Products (and others), as well as developing my visual awareness. Maybe this course: https://www.graphicdesignacademy.uk/courses/graphic_design_higher_national_certificate (~£2000) would be what you want… or you might find a local college offering it. I did mine part/time. It was 2-8pm on a Wednesday afternoon for two years. Everyone there was in employment and although their employers might not have paid for the course, they were supportive of it.

It is completely natural to feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of design programs available, especially when you are looking for professional growth rather than a full career change. While the British Academy is a solid choice for formal theory, you might find that a course focused on "applied" skills is more efficient for expanding a specific skill set. Many professionals in similar positions have found that the industry-led courses like ELVTR https://uk.elvtr.com/course are perfect for busy people who need to master modern visual communication quickly.
