Where do i need to go to find original house plans for house built in 1896?

I've been to the planning at the council and seen some plans from the 1960s. But they don't have anything earlier.

Where shall I look, any clues please?

Well unless there is something in the original deeds, it's unlikely there will be anything else.
We were given a bundle of deeds back when we bought the house in 1985 and it was first registered. The Land Registry does hold copies and you can request these. The originals may be with a solicitor or mortgage provider but it's unlikely these days.

Old conveyances with maps can be on the Land Registry as mentioned Upthread. If you are lucky, you might find something here

But generally these are exterior photos

For land boundaries, the OS has a historic maps search.

I tried to find mine for a house built in 1934 and the local council planning office implied, I think, that before 1948 you could do more or less what you wanted and they had no records prior to that.

The other thing was that they had converted more recent documents to micro-fiche and had either not kept earlier ones or they were stored at the County records which they wouldn't or couldn't get access.

I didn't pursue it but you could a local history society they may have a solution.

If it is London you could try the London Metropolitan archives. Many other authorities have archives as well.

I misread the title and was about to suggest an aspidistra Blush

That’s a good suggestion…they have amazing records at LMA, including all the ones for Coram Foundling Hospital…many are now online.

That’s excellent. Could also be a fern in a Wardian case.

Coming on to say thank you for the encouragement.

I emailed the County Council Archives and Local History enquires, and it turns out they hold the plans of the now disbanded Urban District Council of the time my house was built.

They showed me how to search the catalogue and I found some absolutely incredible detailed plans from the original architects. They hold so much!

I'm over the moon and fascinated to get all this
