Interested in people’s thoughts on the brew dog CEO’s comments today on work life balance (see sky news home page)

I quite like the idea of ‘integrating’ work with home life. I’ve only read snippets of this though.

Countrydiary · 16/01/2025 18:21

My main thoughts are that it’s his company so setting your own workload is very different from most people’s work where you are being asked to do things. Quite frankly if you’re a nurse or something you don’t want them always on, rest is needed. Also I don’t think either of them have any idea of what it’s like juggling kids or other caring responsibilities, so I trust nothing about their opinions 😂

Youngheartsalittletogetherness · 16/01/2025 19:39

Easy to say when you own the company raking in big buck's.
People on the shop floor may have a different opinion.

This us the thing, sometimes I do SFA at work and sometimes there's a customer injury/person on teack situation/service disruption/customer wanting help with a long and complicated fare query/contractor needs 47 keys and needs to sign them all out/ticket machines all blow out and I'm up to my neck in work (railways). Circumstances out of my control dictate my workload. I'm sure it's the same for many other occupations.

Sorry for the typos.

Crinkle77 · 16/01/2025 19:51

I disagree with him. I like my job and colleagues but once I logged off I want to forget about it. If you're the owner or a senior partner of a company you can't always switch off but that is to be expected and is part and parcel of being a business owner or commanding a high salary. Any managers or business owners who expect staff to work outside office hours and not be compensated in some way, whether that be extra pay, toil bonus etc...are taking the piss.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 16/01/2025 19:54

I saw this on the Poke a few days ago. These people obviously don't know what it's like working a heavy, manual job or anything else "normal". They also sound fake and dull as fuck.

Gowlett · 16/01/2025 19:59

I’m freelance & don’t always keep office hours.
Other aspects of my job, mean I have to be on site (events)

This means that I could be working any day, any time.
The line between work & home… I’m on my phone a lot.

I have friends who work for US tech multinationals.
They’re expected to be available or on at all times.

It’s why these places provide lunches, dinners etc…
Young US workers say the only escape is a remote holiday.

FerretChops · 16/01/2025 20:25

I can't take anything this man says seriously.

Serial letch - so bad that his male staff had to ensure the female staff weren't in working when he came for visits - a whole host of other stuff too

So I may listen if it was someone with any credibility saying it but not this moron

mnahmnah · 16/01/2025 20:47

There’s something about him that makes me very uncomfortable. He’s really quite odd in his manner. He certainly is out of touch with the wide variety of jobs and home lives that people have

IDontLikePinaColadas · 16/01/2025 20:56

I hardly think he’s in a position to comment on how people should feel about their jobs, considering all the complaints made about him by his employees a few years ago.

MidnightPatrol · 16/01/2025 20:57

Absolutely ridiculous to expect someone earning minimum wage to do this.

Totally different if you’re in a senior role / more specifically own the business.

TheseCalmSeas · 16/01/2025 20:59

I don’t think he should be commenting on work life balance considering his reputation.

Very happy to not agree with his POV.

AquaPeer · 16/01/2025 21:00

He’s extraordinarily emotionally immature and I think it’s obvious this man has nothing to teach society about anything. What he said about work life balance is simply something any 23 year old wannabe finance bro could’ve cobbled together.

it’s a shame as I liked Georgia toffolo but she’s turned out to be a cool wife chump after all

DreamW3aver · 16/01/2025 21:13

Didnt he say something similar a few days ago, you'd think someone might have advised him what not to say

CountingDownToSummer · 16/01/2025 21:52

I wouldn't listen to any business advice given by James Watt, "the North Atlantic fishing captain"
Given the amount of complaints from his employees about his behaviour I am very shocked anyone would give him any platform to preach about work/life balance

Givemethesun · 16/01/2025 23:15

I’ve enjoyed these comments. I didn’t agree with him and all and thought he doesn’t understand how the wider world or roles or family life work

He's nae a popular mannie in the N East of Scotland where his company originated.
His company got a roasting in local press regarding employee complaints and treatment at work.

User478 · 16/01/2025 23:25

Didn't Brewdog lose their B corp status because they treated their workers so badly?

And they asked designers to design ads and other things and present them as part of their job application/interview then kept the products but didn't hire anyone?

I'm not going to apply for a job there...
