Pill and breast cancer

My DD has been to the Dr today (without me) for a few things, but including painful periods. She’s 17 and not sleeping with anyone.

The Dr has immediately sent her off with details of the pill.

I had breast cancer 9 years ago, it was Triple Negative so not the hormonal type.

I am really edgy about this, as the pill ups her risk and I obviously don’t want her to go through what I did ever. I do not have the BRAC gene, so it’s possible I was just unlucky, but I was also on the pill from 21-40 years old.

I guess I just want to write the worries down, the Dr did ask re cancer and knows I had it, but didn’t discuss it any further with her.

Shes nervous about doing it and I’m nervous to let her.

The doctor will have fully assessed her and recommended this as a treatment option. He or she will have been to medical school and will know about medication risks and associations.
Painful periods (and whatever else she was there for) are crippling and affect lives. She has exams to concentrate on and a life to lead. Many women take the pill for years for many reasons and they do not all get cancer.

I have also had breast cancer but not hormonal.
I avoided HRT because of the risk of breast cancer and got it anyway.
The pill is an excellent way to manage difficult periods and will make your DD's life better. I would try not to let your understandable worries affect her decision.
