Hey - has anyone got good recs for board games for preschool age?

My dd is 4. She can count and read numbers, but not many letters. She can just about manage turn taking :)
She’s visual and creative.

We’ve had a fun time with a simplified uno, My first carcassonne, and matching/memory type games…

Also:

Cockroach poker (she is a worryingly good liar!)

Dominos as well

Windy knickers. Sounds ridiculous but both my kids love it

Set
It isn't just for children and it's one of those rare games where adults. and small children can play on an equal footing, as you are looking for things in common that most of us have trained ourselves out of by playing cards. When youngest DD was 4 she absolutely trounced DH and I.
Also Ouisi;
we played a 4 generation game at Christmas of 'picture dominoes' where there was no right or wrong answer but we each had to explain why we'd put down the picture we had chosen in the place we'd put it. Great for conversation between the generations and developing analytical/explanatory thinking ( coincidentally also good for older people with memory issues).

Our niece liked Tsuro at that age - it looks quite 'grown up' but very simple with a bit of guidance

My DD likes Poo Bingo. It's good motivation to learn letters and reading as she always wants to be the bingo caller. We also like buckaroo!

Zingo

Lots of orchard games were popular with my two when they were preschool age.

Snakes and ladders is a pretty enduring success from that age onwards

Junior monopoly as well

Cobra Paw
Labyrinth
Qwirkle possibly?

Orchard Games are perfect for that age, do check charity shops, as they are quite easy to find there. Dobble is great too, I wouldn't bother with the junior version, I find it's a game where younger children often are sharper eyed than adults.

hinterkitten · 16/01/2025 08:15

Snug as a Bug in a Rug- it's a coop game with different levels of difficulty

Jellybum2019 · 16/01/2025 08:20

The Bluey scavenger hunt has been a hit for my just turned 3 year old and 5 year old this Christmas.

they also both enjoy the Whot games (not sure on the age on these but it has helped so much with my youngest recognising numbers and turn taking)

as others have said you can’t go wrong with Orchard toys!
