Does anyone’s pre-schooler use a 2 wheeled scooter?

Not sure quite where to post this! I’ve been thinking of getting a 2 wheeled scooter for my average height 3 year old - as he does really well using his balance bike but a lightweight, foldable scooter to use sometimes would make my life easier when travelling.

But I’m wary of going for the 3 wheeled scooters that seems popular for that age group, as they all seem to be tilt-to-turn, which is a new skill for him to learn when I think I’d rather he continue to practice regular steering (as we will hopefully be moving on to a peddle bike in the summer and I don’t want to risk confusing things!)

I’ve seen some nice looking 2 wheeled scooters that say they are suitable from 3 years and up (including a new one from Globber but not many reviews yet). But equally if nobody’s 3 year old has managed to master a 2 wheeled scooter then maybe I have to re- think this…

Any recommendations? Thanks

My DD has had a 2 wheeled stunt scooter since just after she turned 3, she got the hang of it straight away, and a 2 wheeled bike soon after. Now at 9 she rollerskates and skateboards. Balance is her thing.

Hers is a JD Bug (she still has the same one - it's adjustable and she's petite). It's still fab after 6 years of heavy use including on the skate park.

My two youngest had razor scooters when they were 3 or 4. Youngest in particular spent half her days scooting around, and learned to ride a two-wheeled bike in about five minutes when she got one for her birthday at age 5.

DD rode a bike at 3, but had a three wheel micro scooter too which didn’t cause any issues.

Yes, we never bothered with 3 wheeled scooters. Straight to 2 wheel micro scooters. Best money we spent, as the good quality and ability to extend the handlebar height means my 10 year old still rides hers to school! She got it at 4, but her brother would have been a year younger easily as he always wanted his sisters. Both also learnt to ride bikes with no stabilisers and have been riding since simulator ages, again my son slightly earlier as he copied his sister! Don't get sucked in the the 'norm' - trust your instinct.

Thanks very much for the help and advice @DontNeedAnyMoreClothes

I’ll have a good look at all the brands mentioned, thanks. It’s slightly confusing as a lot do seem to say 5 and up - but then when you look at the minimum height that the scooter can be set to it’s the same as the 3 and up ones (about 70 cm) so not sure of the reasoning for this!

But it’s brilliant to know your kids all managed. I’m sure DS will take a week or two to get used to it (just like his balance bike) - but I was wary of getting one and then finding out that no 3 year old would be capable of using one and I should have waited till he’s 5 🤣
