Just as the title says really ? We often don't get home till 6 so dinner at 6 then bedtime seems to be really late, but tonight my dd is so tired and sobbing over being so tired I'm wondering if I'm putting her to bed too late for her age group x

Mine were 8pm with a hoped for 8.30pm sleep time. Usually 9pm actually asleep.

I never had children who were asleep by 6pm. Just as well, as I couldn't get them home from the childminder until 6.30pm and carrying two of them over my shoulder onto a bus and then a quarter mile uphill before five flights of stairs was always going to be impossible.

Bath 7.30, in bed at 8, lights off & sleep 8.30pm

She gets up at 7.30am, so 11 hours sleep.

Dr google says kids need 9-12 hours at that age.

HornyHornersPinger · 14/01/2025 20:31

Gets ready and has story at 7.20pm, Gets in to bed to read alone 7.30, lights out at 8pm. Up at 7am normally.

In bed for 8, reads till about 20 past then falls asleep by half past. Gets up around 7. I need the evening to myself and also teach an awful lot of very tired children every day at school and see how it affecta them so am almost entirely consistent with bedtimes.

NuffSaidSam · 14/01/2025 20:38

In bed between 7pm and 7:30pm, usually asleep in minutes. But he is an early riser, up by 6am (or earlier) every day.

spinningbirds · 14/01/2025 21:21

I do think the time they have to get up at is hugely important when figuring out a reasonable bed time

Oistinemup · 14/01/2025 21:25

My DC is an adult now but was always 7pm until 6.30am.

Bedtime only became later when started Cubs as that didn’t finish until about 7pm,

We all like a lot of sleep in our family 😎

StrawHatLuffy · 14/01/2025 21:29

7 year old need 9-12 hours sleep.
Whatever time they have to get up, they should be asleep 9-12 hours before that.
My DD has always been quite lucky and not had to get up till 8am so she used to go to bed about 8.30, sleep by 9 / 9.30

FlowerP0w3r · 14/01/2025 21:36

DD has clubs on Monday, Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday so bedtime is usual 8pm. Fridays and Saturdays are usually around 9pm. Sunday is a strict 7.30pm bedtime. All works well.

DrRichardWebber · 14/01/2025 21:37

Mine is still awake. She’s a night owl, and doesn’t wake up until 7.30. I’m hoping she will be asleep soon.

We insist on lights out at 8.45.

scrivette · 14/01/2025 21:43

Try to get into bed at 7 except on a Thursday due to a later club and she had to get up at 7. Usually asleep around 7:30 and sometimes wakes earlier than 7.

TheThreeMiracles · 14/01/2025 19:47

@Newyearnewmewoooop same here ! But it seems far too late 🫣 I also have to lay with her until she is asleep so it's a lot longer than just putting her in her bed if that makes sense all

Why do you need to lay with a 7 yrs old? get her to read you a story 10-15 min and lights out

GretchenWienersHair · 14/01/2025 21:46

I was going to start a thread asking the same thing today! Bed time routine starts at 7.30, after much arsing around he’s usually in bed by 8 and reads or draws in bed until about 8.30-9. DH seems to think everything is happening far too late and stresses everyone out rushing to get everything done in the evenings, but I don’t get home until gone 6. Id barely see him if he went to bed earlier!

Desmondo2021 · 14/01/2025 21:51

About 9.30/10pm having gone up about 8.30 and reading/watching tablet in bed. Life became much less stressful once I stopped focussing on a 7.30pm bedtime that was unrealistic and unnecessarily. She gets up with no issues at 7.45am and bedtimes are nice and chill (ie 'go up now' her: 'ok, night')

CoodleMoodle · 14/01/2025 22:03

My Y2 is 6.5 and goes up about 7:15ish, usually already in his PJs. We do teeth then one of us reads to him for about 10mins, then he reads by himself for 5-10mins. We're usually putting the light off at about 7:45 by the time that's all done. He's normally asleep by 8pm but not always (DD10 comes up to bed about then and sometimes that disturbs him).

He wakes up at about 7am, comes in to us at 7:30 on the dot.

May09Bump · 14/01/2025 22:05

7.30pm asleep at 7, now 8.30pm at 8.5yrs

Plouik · 14/01/2025 22:23

All kids are different so what other people do isn't that relevant. If your kid is crying with tiredness you should try an earlier bedtime. For what it's worth, mine is asleep by 7.30. She wakes before 7 and is knackered if she doesn't get at least 11 hours.

PatheticDistraction · 14/01/2025 22:28

I can't let my 6 yrs old go to sleep before 10pm, otherwise he starts the day at 2am - and we frequently have 2am bedtimes, but he's autistic, so not a fair comparison! How I dream of an 8pm bedtimes

Cherryblossom6754 · 15/01/2025 11:33

Mine struggles to go straight to sleep and needs time to unwind from getting in. I like to get in 5pm latest.
Upstairs for reading around 6.15pm with lights out at 7pm. Usually falls asleep 8pm.

mamatoTails · 15/01/2025 11:35

Between 8.30 & 9.

GroovyChick87 · 15/01/2025 11:38

Between 7.45 and 8 pm.

Jingleballs2 · 15/01/2025 11:38

We aim to get him into bed at 9, could be 9.30.. he normally is asleep around 10/10.30

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with a late sleeping child

SJM1988 · 15/01/2025 11:44

7.30pm most nights. I'd say two 8.30pm nights a week. DS was moaning this morning he was tired after his 8.30pm weekday night. Woke him up at 7am.

bluesky45 · 15/01/2025 11:54

Upstairs between 7:30 and 8 usually. Actually going to sleep about 9. It's later than I would like but he doesn't seem tired and is up for school no problem

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 15/01/2025 14:28

Goes up at 7.30 for teeth brushing and stories, usually asleep somewhere between 8 and 8.30. Still have to wake her up at 7.30 most mornings though!
