For those folks who know Newcastle, what would you do if you had two nights there with a female teenager (18) please?

Some nice cafes / independent shops / restaurants kind of thing.

Any recommendations for hotels near the train station?

Limited mobility - okay on flat but not hiking up stairs / landmarks please.

Many thanks!

Second vote here for Grainger Market, also Kafeneon in the Big Market, great Greek food - best to book though or Santana's on Jesmond Road, bit of a (flat) walk or short taxi away for consistently great Italian at good prices. For a bit of a treat and feeling fancy there are several cocktail / small bite eateries within Fenwick's on Northumberland Street - I always like to wander through the food hall when in the area. You probably won't have time but if you decide to venture further, the metro runs to South Shields and a taxi to Colman's Seafood Temple for posh fish and chips and all sorts of seafood. Enjoy yourselves - I love a day trip or weekend in Newcastle!

Ouseburn is apparently really good!

St james' stack is popular

Have a wander around Fenwicks, stop for coffee in there

Visit the millennium bridge and walk along the quayside

It's quite a drop down to the Quayside from the Central Station if you're walking, so be warned about that. The walk up to the University and city centre isn't so gruelling, and the sweep of Grey Street and its neo-classical buildings, the shops, restaurants, theatre, museums, activities, etc, is wonderful - and you can get the metro the short hop up to Monument and Haymarket.

Is your DD looking at one of the universities?

But there is a regular bus up to town. A wander down the Quayside via Bigg Market, over the bridge(pedestrian and lovely views op) to the Baltic and Sage) Back into town, Grainger Market is a great mix of traditional market and nice little foodie stalls. The Laing is worth a look if she’s into Art. Shopping-Fenwicks, Eldon Square. And def get the metro out to Tynemouth, it’s lovely, gorgeous sea views, the market and little shops and bars.

Afternoon tea in the WC bar. It's literally a converted toilet but done so well. Really quirky and lovely service. I second granger market and als la mooch around Fenwicks. It does live up to the title of "Harrods of the North"!

Yy to the WC (converted toilets), there's a larger WC (previously a mens loo) and then nearby a teeny tiny WC (previously a woman's loo) with about 8 seats. Both worth a pop into during the daytimes.

I never really use Newcastle in the later evening for going out as I'm not a fan of the vibe (not unsafe at all, just very focused on drinking a lot and falling over), so I'd recommend daytime cocktails and then just a later dinner at a restaurant.
