In the Times this weekend and if you google there are worldwide deaths from slings. This is behind a paywall I should think but if anyone can link the article in full I would be grateful. Mum wants the word spread.

Article

‘’Our baby died in his sling. We want everyone to know the dangers’’

As far as I’m aware there have been no sling deaths in the UK when the safety guidelines have been flowed. I don’t know about other countries. I am happy to be corrected if I’m wrong.

Here are ths safety guidelines.

Here is a BBC article on the same story. It was a tragic death but the article suggests safety guidelines weren’t been followed. They really do need to be more widely publised. Perhaps given out by midwives when they tell new Mums about SIDS.

Baby Sling Carriers **TRIGGER SENSITIVE

Isn’t the point the parents are raising that there isn’t enough info on safely using a baby carrier? I believe the coroner commented that the NHS barely had any info on safely using a carrier and the manufacturer instructions can be lacking too.

I think all parents should be signposted to local sling libraries personally. I paid £20 for a session including hire for 2 weeks and it was very useful. But not all areas have them, so there needs to be some regulation so manufacturers are forced to include more safety guidance. A lot of carriers are advertised from birth but often are a poor fit and just shouldn’t be used.

Also I see so many influencers using carriers wrong. It’s no wonder most people don’t know what good looks like. Some of the ads for the most popular carriers don’t even have the babies in them correctly. Artipoppe is a prime example.
