Shark flexstyle 5-in-1 air styler

Has anyone got this or had any experience using it? I have been back and forth about whether or not to by a Dyson Airwrap but at nearly £500 it just seems so expensive! Online reviews seem to put the Shark styler at about £280 (almost half the price!?) And with really good reviews claiming it to be as good as the Airwrap.

For context - either would be a huge treat and not something I would ever usually spend money on but I’ve had a really decent bonus at work. I have used trusty GHDs for ever and feel like my hair is so boring! It’s naturally curly but also frizzy so needs a lot of help. I don’t have a lot of skill or patience so need something that’s going to work 🤣 My hair is very heavy and with it being naturally curly but does tend to hold a style.

if anyone could help I’d really appreciate it please. If the Airwrap is worth spending all that money then that’s fine, but I’m starting to wonder if the Shark could be just as good?! As you may have gathered I’m pretty much clueless 🤣 Thank you!

I have no lived experience but I’ve been debating the same, and the expensive air wrap. I’ve done lots of research (watched lots of tik tok videos) and have concluded that for my hair: thick, coarse and wavy, neither of these stylers will work sadly, not to get the effect those blessed with more controllable hair have anyway. I did go into Dyson and the sales rep dampened my hair and then did a curl, it was impressive, but had dropped before I even left the store, and my hair holds curls from the GHD wand for days.

gap in the market for people like me!

I have both - Dyson at home, and I take shark for travelling and gym.
Can't comment on how it would work on your hair type, mine is fine and straight.

For results, yes they are more or less the same. However, Dyson has better design and is more comfortable to use though, for 2 reasons - buttons are placed so you can easily operate it with one hand. And second, the newer versions come with direction change barrels, so you don't need to change the tool to curl the other direction.
Personally, if my Dyson broke, I'd probably get a new one. But Shark does the job.

My hair is mid length and straight but I'll give my two pence worth!

I spent ages weighing them both up and opted for the Shark, due to the price as all the reviews (on Tik tok 🤣) said there wasn't much between them. With the Shark there is the option to 'build your own' so you get to choose what attachments you want. So I opted for thick and thin curling attachments instead of the curly hair diffuser that you get if you buy it pre-boxed. Not sure if that's an option with the Dyson.

With the Dyson you can change the direction of the curling wand attachment by clicking a button whereas the Shark you need two separate attachments for the left side and the right side but I decided even with the Dyson that wasn't worth the extra ££.

I really like the paddle brush attachment as you get a blow dry/straighteners style effect but I wish I had chosen the round brush attachment instead of one of the curling attachments. I'm not sure if it's because my hair is very straight, but I find it doesn't hold a curl that great and I'm going back to my tongs if I want a proper curl.

I'm still learning and tips I've found are to mousse your hair up, you have to style your hair when it's 80% dry for it to last etc etc but I don't regret buying it. I love how smooth/blow dry like it makes my hair for minimal faff and when I can be bothered I'll persevere with mastering the curls.

I got a refurbished one from the shark eBay store. They still have a few with different attachments for around £180. I like mine but I haven't tried a Dyson, it felt like too much money to me. I'm rubbish at doing my hair but I can get it to look much better than usual in about 5-10 mins with the oval brush.

Mine came with a soft case but the hard case looks much better

I bought mine from the Ebay store too. Regular really good deals on there - mine was already discounted but there was an additional 20% off when I went to check out.

I really like it - my hair is fine but lots of it, and is a combination of curls and waves. I use the oval attachment to blow dry my bob and can do it from sopping wet to completely dry in under 15 minutes. Not used a Dyson to be able to compare but definitely very pleased with the shark.

I have one.

The hairdryer is very good.

What I would say, as someone that also has frizzy wavy hair, that it doesn't give the same finish as GHDs and there's still quite a lot of frizz develops over the day. This isn't unique to the Shark though, my sister has the same hair type and found the Dyson air wrap was the same. She ended up selling hers.

If you're looking for a frizz free finish, I'd stick with your trusty GHDs
