What are some good hand wash/soap makes?

I like things like Molton Brown/Aesop/Malin & Goetz but I can’t justify £30-40 on stuff that goes down the plug hole!

There must be some good makes out there that are priced more like £10 but cut out all the expense of marketing themselves as a status symbol?

M&S. do a nice range called "calm" but I agree that Aesop lasts ages and is worth it as a luxury. I have general stuff for kids in the downstairs loo as well as Aesop and it lasts about 18 months using this method.

I do let kids use the posh soap now and again and enjoy the reverence they give it!

Another vote for M&S Calm. It smells like a spa! I have the larger one which comes in a lovely brown glass bottle, and you can buy refills for it.

Pure Lakes (based in the Lake District) has the most amazing-smelling grapefruit and lemongrass hand wash (and shower gel etc). It's lovely!

They do refills of their products as well if you send them your empty bottles.

Ineos... its around £2 smells amazing and is very moisturising. It's the best I have tried in YEARS

M&S do lovely ones for about £2.

Rituals ones are beautiful.

I like the M&S calm hand wash, and when guests come I swap it out for Aesop (we have Aesop in our bathroom too but it’s wasted on the kids day-to-day!)

Normallynumb · 12/01/2025 23:18

I like the Ineos orange and almond or
Carex advance Macadamia oil

Shoezembagsforever · 12/01/2025 23:21

I tried Aesop for a while but meh - £50 on a hand soap!

It's Bayleys and Harding all the way for me now, plus their shower gel.

I like the Ineos hand soaps, Ocado sells them. Cheap, nice mild fragrance and don't dry my hands. I decant into a pretty dispenser.

Edited

I was going to say the exact same thing. I get the refills and put them in a nice pump.

PickAChew · 12/01/2025 23:25

I don't want something luxurious for hand-wash. I want something I'm not allergic to that gets them clean.

We use the bio-d unscented as we can get 5l for about £20. I have actual soap in the bathroom for my own use. The £1.70 for 4 Waitrose essentials one.

Cookerhood · 12/01/2025 23:25

The Valentte ones are nice a thick & feel luxurious as well as smelling good.

LL1991 · 12/01/2025 23:27

Girl, get yourself down to tk maxx and get the bayliss and Harding oud and Amber hand wash - big tub for 4 or 5£ and smells lush. My mother in law has it and I’ve been lusting after it all Christmas. Stop spending full price and just go sniff the ones in TK Maxx for yourself! Xx

CarrieMoonbeams · 12/01/2025 23:33

I do use Molton Brown but I use it with one of those foaming hand wash dispensers. You add 100ml of soap to about 250ml of water, give it a shake and that's that.

The MB hand wash I use is currently £15-odds in the sale, that's for 300ml, so you get 3 fills for your money!

The dispensers were £9 for 2 from Amazon, we've had them for about a year and they've been great.

PiggyPigalle · 12/01/2025 23:51

I buy the biggest bottle of cheap bubble bath and pour it into dispensers.
Often shampoos I've not liked as well get used up.

Washing hands isn't supposed to be an experience is it? I wash them so often through the day, I keep it cheap.

SlightlyJaded · 13/01/2025 00:05

Agree you can't beat Aesop, but also agree that the M&S Apothecary hand soaps are good. I love the CALM and the RESTORE ones.

Neal's Yard is reduced to £7.50 at the moment. I love the lavender one - it's not 'granny' lavender, it's potent, clean essential oil lavender smelling.

And another essential oil rather than 'granny' gorgeous lavender one (really thick and soft feeling) is one I always look out for in TK Maxx called * *Savonnier de Provence Lavender or Beaute en Provence Lavender (same). There are other fragrances in the range and they are rich smelling and feeling.

Aldi Lidl and M&S do great molten brown dupes..

Lidl do a great Aesop dupe - smells divine!

How would you know which one is the dupe?

Oh wow, that's amazing. 🤣🤣. I've just finished my Aesop, tempted to refill the bottle with the dupe 🤣

It is nice, it’s not quite as nice as Aesop but for the price difference I’ll take it!
theres a body wash as well

Myblueclematis · 24/06/2025 10:00

I have two on the go, Faith in Nature's Wild Rose which smells absolutely fabulous which is for visitors to use, I have to use Doublebase no soap handwash as it's the only handwash that doesn't dry my hands out and bring on the old eczema.

I've only been using it for about three months but it has proved to be a hand saver, no more sore and itchy fingers.

I quite like some of the Baylis and Harding ones. I have to give them a sniff test in the supermarket before buying them

I think the white tea and neroli one smells gorgeous.

Wheech · 24/06/2025 11:02

Another vote for Ineos. Everyone who uses it comments on it.

SlightlyJaded · 24/06/2025 11:05

Another vote for Lidl Aromatic. It smells amazing and it's not watery like some of the other cheaper soaps (Bayliss and Harding has definitely got more watery over the years).
