Anyone else got this horrible virus that won't turn into anything?

For the last ten days I've felt slightly run down, sore throat, slightly blocked nose, headache on and off, but it won't turn into a proper cold.

It's so frustrating, because you feel ill but you're not that ill, so you can't stay off work or laze around all day. Anyone else in this?😭

I would definitely recommend taking a sick day in bed even if you don't feel as ill as your normal threshold for that - your body is clearly communicating that something is wrong and it needs rest. I predict that you will feel much better for it

If I could, I would. We're majorly understaffed at work and too busy for me to be off

It's just nice to know I'm not alone! Caught it from a colleague on 3rd January & haven't felt right since. Spend every waking hour I'm not at work resting & keep expecting to feel better the next day, but that's not happened yet. Well, I feel slightly better in the morning & gradually worse as the day wears on, except for the days when I wake up with the headache.

It's the fact the headache comes and goes!! I'm trying to stay as normal as possible but with a much lighter exercise load, staying loaded on fruit and veg, taking my vitamins and hydrating. It's just an absolute nightmare

I feel like I’ve not had a “proper” cold for ages, always just a daft cough or sniffles for a few days, never bad enough for time off work or a proper rest. This time is different though, I went from a bit of a cough on Friday morning to properly laid out by Friday evening, freezing cold, feverish and aching and exhausted. I genuinely thought it was flu, although I have recovered a bit now so it must be a bad cold, but I still feel rubbish and have called in sick to work.

mitogoshigg · 13/01/2025 09:28

Ditto except yesterday afternoon it blew up into a proper cough that kept me awake so I'm off today, work with vulnerable people so don't want to cough all over them

RJnomore1 · 13/01/2025 09:33

Me! It's rubbish isn't it

SoapySponge · 13/01/2025 10:43

Yes and I've never been so thankful for being retired 'cos it meant I didn't have to go into work feeling crap.

I got the same virus in mid-December and only felt fully recovered in early Jan. I also started by feeling unwell but not ill enough to take days off, then woke up on day 6 feeling so fatigued I could barely get out of bed, plus nausea and dizziness if I tried to do anything. Once the worst symptoms went I had a lingering cough and tiredness for another week. It was horrible and anyone suffering now has my sympathy!

It's just so frustrating that it won't become a proper cold or flu and let me take some time off!!!

A friend of mine seems to have just got over something similar, if not the same.
Sore throat, headache, very tired, little appetite, just blah and tired.
She drank loads of herbal/green teas, kept warm and slept when she could.
The one thing that I know she's done before for sore throat is Oregano oil.
It's amazing stuff, and I'm going to proactively get some soon to have on hand.

I've used Oegano oil as a steam inhaler too. It has strong antibacterial properties.

Yep, day ten here. I also have weirdly sensitive skin, like its sore to touch.

Oreosareawful · 13/01/2025 11:14

Yes! For several days now I feel like I'm fighting something off.
Slightly runny nose, aches, headache, exhausted, occasional cough that makes me choke. Also waking in the night with my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth because I'm mouth breathing- grrr

I spent all day in bed on Saturday- I was just so lethargic
