Icy Weather

Who's loving it?

I know it can be dangerous and causes accidents and damage to water pipes but this is one of my favourite types of weather.

Walked the dog this morning at the country park, it was -6°C but it felt so invigorating, fresh and crisp!
Perfect for clearing away the cobwebs of the first week back to work.
Beautiful images everywhere I look of frozen cobwebs, trees glistening with hard frost and crunchy grass underfoot.

Anyone else a fan?

Definitely lovely dog walking weather.

My favourite landscapes to paint are frost and snow.

I like feeling cold air going into your lungs

The crunch of frosty grass

I even find scraping the car meditative.

Wouldn’t like it all the time and it’s better if you can choose what to do that day.

The white mist also drags out my hidden goth
misty figures

I usually love it! But I'm 33 weeks pregnant and haven't left the house for 2 days because I'm too scared to drive and scared I'll slip if I walk! Have a drs appt soon so I'll have to take the leap of fath!

It's great when you have a warm house to set out from and come back to! Was not so fun when our boiler went last year! Everything does look magical though.

I like it as its sort of fairylike looking in the garden right now.

I took some photos earlier of the frost on the outside of my kitchen/garden window. Very pretty patterns in it.

I'm in London so it's just a little dusting of sparkling frost....it makes ugly buildings and shabby houses look all pretty and clean but I'm staying home even though I had things to do today because I can't risk a fall. Thankfully I don't have a dog to walk in this weather. I'm so grateful to be able to put the heating on and sit on MN drinking coffee in the comfort of my own little home.

SevenWeeks · 11/01/2025 11:48

No, not me. Just want it back to normal so I can walk places without constantly worrying about slipping.

NasiDagang · 11/01/2025 12:08

I bloody hate it, nothing magical about the freezing weather! If you have a warm house then it's easy to be really smug over the beautiful scenery, glistening cobwebs.

Doggymummar · 11/01/2025 12:09

It was lovely earlier, but all melted now

Jewell25 · 11/01/2025 12:19

It’s beautiful here. About to go for a long walk across the fields. I love a cold, crisp, sunny day.

Cheersmedears123 · 11/01/2025 12:26

I’ve been hating it. I can see my breath in my kitchen and I dread having a shower. Thankfully it’s more mild here today.

Purplecatshopaholic · 11/01/2025 12:36

Bloody hate it! Roads are like glass, pavements and footpaths are way too slippery to be safe regardless of footwear (currently inches of snow and -6).
I cracked two ribs slipping a few years ago, and I’ve been wary ever since. My dogs (Spanish rescues) hate it too. We cosy up in the house with the heating on and go out as little as possible!

Aberdeen is a giant ice rink pita to get about.
A and E treated over 200 fractures.
Be glad to see the back of it.

Longma · 11/01/2025 12:57

Love it in places like Switzerland where it's still safe to get out and about without risk of falling, slipping, crashing, etc.

Don't like it here where it's either wet dirty slush or untreated roads and lave nets that are lethal for most people.

If everywhere was safe to get about and it looked beautiful on fields and parks, etc and everyone had enough money to hear their homes adequately - it'd be great.

We have two teens who currently live in the UK and will do for a fair few years yet then who knows.

So we try and see the positives in all weather rather than have them pissing and moaning it’s too hot/wet/cold and they think hiding in a house is their only option.
