Does anyone understand this- my dd is at uni in wales. So is her home ie with me still her main residence does anyone know. Can I still claim single allowance as she's over 18 now/ I think these are two different questions ?

If you live in England and it's just you and your FT student daughter as over 18s in your home then you/she needs to fill in the exemption/disregard form so that you still qualify for the 25% sole occupancy discount. FT students are exempt from Council tax.

I had to provide a letter from the university to show that ds was enrolled on the course - he could download this from his student portal.

If she is living away at uni then that address will be classed as her main address and she will be exempt from council tax at that property.

The holidays will be classed as a short term visitor so you will still be able to get the single person discount.

This changes when she graduates. If there is a gap between her finish date and for example, starting a masters, she will be liable for council tax during these months.

She is exempt until she finishes her course (not graduation date which may be sometime later). So you can claim single person discount.
