The background is that when my sister and I were at primary school, we were given readings to do at the Christmas carol service. Mine was a fairly standard bible reading, and my sister's was this poem. My dad recorded us doing our readings on a cassette tape, which is why I have all the words. This was in 1972.
Despite much Googling, I have been unable to find the poem anywhere since then. It's possible it may have been written by someone at the school, although I think that's unlikely. So if anyone can shed any light on the origins of the poem, I'd be very grateful!
It's Christmas again! The frosty air rings
With gay sounds that only Christmas time brings.
Glad voices of carollers warm the chill air.
And church bells are chiming for joy everywhere.
It's Christmas again! The stars still look down.
The same stars that shone over Bethlehem town.
Long centuries ago at the birth of a king,
When angels came earthwards, their tidings to bring.
It's Christmas again! Oh let it be bright!
Rejoice and be merry from morning to night.
But in all that you do, in the gifts that you bring
Remember the Christ child, the manger born king.
Remember the Christ who was born on this day,
In time long ago, in a land far away.
For he is our saviour, the lord of all living,
God's gift and the reason for all Christmas giving.
Thank you!
