What tool do I need?

I am ok-ish at a little bit of DIY. Learned how to use a drill and hang shelves in recent months.

I am looking at adapting a cabinet. I need one large piece of wood, I think it may be MDF, I will double check, to be cut in half to make two pieces?

What tool do I need to do this job please?

A manual saw would be a pain in the ass. I don't want a big electronic saw. If there was such a thing as a mini one that would be great.

Or would I need a jigsaw tool? Again I just need a mini, likely.

It's for a pet enclosure. Actually when I am done with this job I would maybe like to cut out some more little hideouts from wooden boxes.

Yes a jigsaw would cut it and would be a bit more versatile for other jobs. However, a circular saw with a 150mm blade would give you a straighter cut. You can buy them form around £40 upwards.

If you buy the wood from B&Q they'll cut it to size for you, which you might need to get it home anyway. Save you having to buy an expensive tool that you might not use very often.

I am buying a pet/hamster enclosure. It's flat pack and already has everything I need. B&Q doesn't have what I am looking for. I want to alter the lid and instead of one large rectangle lid, have two lids on top. It will better serve my needs having two smaller lids instead of one big one.
