What made you decide to start, how did you get over the disgust factor at first, and did it change the way you felt, physically or mentally? Really interested to hear experiences.

Adult DD has never eaten meat, I would never have stopped her but she chose not to, and I feel now that it might help her MH to have easily available protein like this. But she says she could never bring herself to eat meat now.

Starting to feel now that I have done totally the wrong thing when she was little. 😥Are there any people who are lifelong veggies - never eaten meat even as childern - who are genuinely very healthy into old age? I feel so guilty.

Your post doesn't make sense. You obviously didn't give her meat when she was a child, so you did stop her.

What are you feeling guilty about?

Of course there are - in fact there are numerous studies now that suggest that vegans and vegetarians are healthier and live longer than meat eaters. Its very outdated to believe that protein can only come from meat - if she is lacking in protein there are plenty of ways for her to increase her protein intake and remain vegetarian.

All the lifelong vegetarians I know (mostly Hindus and Jains, but not all) are in flying good health in their eighties. The mum of an old friend is out there ballroom dancing in elaborate, beautiful saris aged 85. Obviously, vegetarianism isn't going to save you from serious illness -- her vegetarian husband died young of cancer. The last time I saw an old yoga teacher of mine he was in his eighties and ran past me waving to catch a bus.

Why would you feel that your DD's MH would be aided by having meat as protein? Are you saying she eats a protein-deficient diet as it is?

(I'm 52 and vegetarian since my late teens, eat well and get plenty of protein from pulses and beans, and am in good health, DH likewise -- we are raising our 12 year old vegetarian.)

I brought both my dc up as pescatarian, one started eating meat when he was about 12 the other was 24. Neither seemed to really have any issues doing it and are happily total carnivores now.

I'm 44 and a lifelong vegetarian and very healthy. Why do you think she needs to start eating meat? Unless she wants to, she isn't going to. My DS was raised vegetarian is 16 and has started eating chicken recently but that's his choice. I would never.

A healthy diet is a healthy diet regardless of meat choices. You can have healthy and unhealthy vegetarians and meat eaters. I am sure you have provided your daughter a healthy diet growing up. Has she been advised by a professional to eat more protein?

Not me, but someone I know whose son followed the GAPS diet and had been veggie, then chose to do it with him. She couldn't face meat, but ate fish and bone broth.
