Why does Donald Trump think that the US has a claim to Greenland? London is closer to Greenland's capital Nuuk than Washington DC is! Only by 9 miles but still! What on earth is going through that orange fuzzy head of his!?

Americast were talking about this last night and apparently he isn't the first President to want to buy Greenland (although the first to want to force the issue). Such imperial behaviour.

He is just waiting for reactions to his comments in the hope the people who govern it now buck their ideas up.

My take on this is that he is publicly emulating Putin's style of making outrageous on the surface threatening statements. He's setting his stall out to be as much of a hard man who doesn't give shit what people (with brains and scruples) think.

It's a new phenomenon that's only become possible in the age of social media - government by shit-posting. You scattergun outrageous attention-seeking posts that annoy the people who don't like you, which in turn entertains the people who do. It promotes an us-vs-them division which fuels his personality cult and strokes his deeply damaged ego.
