How to keep the house warm?

It’s absolutely freezing and we’re skint. How can we keep warm in this absolutely freezing weather with no heating?

Luckily we have an electric blanket so that’s on along side hot water bottles and warm socks. Our downstairs doesn’t have any doors, separate rooms but all open plan so we can’t block bottom of doors to keep heat in.

Any ideas? I can see my breath in the air as I’m typing.

Op, I got one of these to heat up our box room as our hamster is in there & it’s absolutely brilliant, it’s so warm in there & costs pence to run. Go in the smallest room of your house & leave it on. Plugs straight into the plug socket!

As someone else pointed out, a lot of these devices are incredibly dangerous.

Also, if a heater “costs pence to run” then it’s really not going to have much heat output, is it?

One thing I used to do when really cold was to make a point of doing some star jumps, skipping, running on the sport, lunges as often as I could. That warmed me a little and got my circulation going.

DD shared a student flat and the others wouldn't have the heating on. She found it easier to have a shower immediately after returning to the flat as she'd warmed herself up.

Definitely Oodies! Ds bought me one for xmas and I've had to turn the heating off earlier than usual as was getting too warm in it. Plus the dog gets in it too to keep me even warmer

I find the humidity worse than the cold. I've got a few damp tramps from Savers and Poundland beside windows:

I've also placed a plant by the window in the coldest rooms (a snake plant in the bathroom and a spider plant in the kitchen) - hopefully, these are reducing the humidity not adding to it!

My heated throw has been my best purchase of the year - most days, I only turn the heating on for three hours in the evening.

I have 'worked from home' from my local library when very cold.

In this freezing cold weather do you literally mean no heating at all?

if this is the case and you literally can’t afford to put it on, google household support fund and then your local area. Contact some of the charities offering it as they may have food vouchers they can give you (you can then diver food money to the heating) or pay money into your gas/electricity account.

also contact citizens advice and anyone else who may be able to help. You will become ill living like this

If yoiur pipes freeze and burrst it will cost a lot more than the heating would.

So make sure you run your taps regularly to make sure they don't.
