Is this uncommon for a UK adoption ?

A very short time from application to adoption (9m) to adopt a newborn.
A closed adoption but the birth parents met the adoptive parents and now the child is heavily featured on SM?

Id always heard it’s rare to adopt a newborn and that the adoption process takes a long time ? It just sounds more like a US adoption and I’m struggling to get my head round the SM side of things being allowed ?

It’s just completely the opposite to anything I’d ever heard / seen / read about UK adoption so I was really surprised that’s all

There aren't as many newborns in care as older children but it's not unheard of. Timing is variable around the country and depends on circumstances of families on both sides. Once a child is adopted, parents can post on social media as much as they want (assuming no specific requirements not to).

Thankyou - it’s just so far away from what I thought about adoption. I was looking into it all and came across this case and I was just surprised as it seemed so quick and no restrictions for some reason I thought adopted children couldn’t go on SM . I thought it was virtually impossible to be matched to a newborn and for the process to be so quick !

There are foster to adopt placements, where babies are placed with the intention that the foster carer will adopt if the child isn’t returned to family.

Where DC have been removed before, new babies will be placed at birth, and it’s often predictable that they will be placed for adoption, so the process can be quick. I’d say 9 months isn’t that quick when everyone knows the score.

There is no blanket ban on adopted children featuring on social media.

Children who are in care are often advised not to be on social media - for example those in foster care and some are not voluntarily placed for adoption (however these children are not adopted as newborns as it tends to take longer - but may be in a foster to adopt situation)

If the parents are choosing to place their child for adoption then it can be less time - and then takes 3 months for it to be finalised after they come to live with them
