Boring but urgent, please help my sweatshirt

Heated airer has put burn marks on my pale grey sweatshirt. This has never happened before- google tells me to bleach the sweatshirt which I am very wary of doing. Is there anything that anyone has done successfully in this situation please?

Sweatshirt is a designer one and was £££ second hand so it’s precious and also not returnable. Worst of all worlds.

Thanks in advance for any help

Picture might help?
But do not bleach it will weaken the already damaged area .
How hot was your airer, it might be faulty if its hot enough to burn clothes?

Bleach won't help a burn mark, surely? The mark is a burn, not a stain.

Where is the mark on the sweatshirt?

In this situation I would do visible mending.

Picture would definitely help!

What material is the sweatshirt?

Bleach is v v v unlikely to be the answer!

Is the sweatshirt a material that could be dyed a darker colour to hide the marks? Or would an applique or similar work?

I was going to suggest visible mending, depending on the area, it might look better with several "mends" .
Dry cleaners may have ideas too, could be worth asking their advice?

Thanks - it’s burnt stripes along the rails. The heater is v old so I am guessing on its way out. Visible mending will not be an option sadly. I was hoping someone was going to say it happened to them and it was fixed magically and easily… oh well

That sounds dangerous!
The jumper isn't sounding salvageable (imo)

I'm pretty sure you can use milk to fade burn marks.
I'll Google......

BaronessBomburst · 07/01/2025 15:05

It's white vinegar, not milk. There's some tips here: (I'd recommend trying white vinegar instead of bleach).
