Exercise with a sprained wrist

I don’t even know how I did it. I just woke up one morning and it had happened overnight.

I usually do yoga but now I can’t do a downward dog as it hurts.

I’m looking for indoor exercise classes, so not things like going out running, although I will be doing as much walking as I can.

I haven’t done Pilates for years so I can’t remember, will it be suitable or not?

Would Zumba be safe? I’ve never done it before?

I’ll have to avoid aerobics as it sometimes involves pushups.

If you advise your class instructor of the issue, then they should be able to come up with alternative exercises that don't aggravate it. Hope it gets better soon.

Are you referring to Pilates?

I would really appreciate any other ideas.

I think you'd have to talk to someone whose class you might consider joining. I have been able to continue with strength and conditioning classes with a torn calf muscle, thanks to the instructors providing alternative exercises for me where necessary.

Pilates is definitely worth considering. Yoga poses that don't require wrist strength? Know nothing about Zumba. A decent aerobics instructor should be able to provide alternative exercises even if others are doing push ups!

Pilates can involve using your wrists but it's not a constant thing (as downward dog often is in yoga) so would be easier to adapt. Aerobics- just skip the push ups or ask for an alternative.

Zumba tends to just be dancing so should be ok, most Les Mills type classes I have done have had push ups/burpees or similar which aren’t great for wrists, I have a dodgy wrist due to a long term ganglion cyst so often do the alternative moves which are offered, just speak to the instructor. Or you could try spin which is just on a bike, I thought I was going to die when I tried it but it is popular at my gym.
