Why not move this to the telly addicts thread.
Don't think anyone here cares!

Bit harsh!

Rtwft, you'll see the explanation for the 'harshness'

I want my mum 😭

Oh, don't! I wish I'd never watched it. I felt wrung out. I didn't know it was coming. I'd skipped past the incident itself as I hate stuff like that. But it was the full episode! 😭

I know, i'd said to DH I think he gets stabbed tonight and then he got in the taxi and i was like, maybe not then, and then it took you back to him sat there and then i sobbed, uncontrollably

@wineandagoodbook Schools work very hard on this issue and have all manner of strategies in place. If you teach in an inner city secondary, as I do, you'd be aware of this. We don't need to show "Coronation St" when we have people who will talk about lived experiences, and experts to work with our young people.

You prompted me to debrief with a friend and she felt exactly the same.

Wow. You've taken an offhand remark about a hard hitting storyline very seriously. 🤣

I think some things get lost in translation through text.

I imagine there were many experts involved in the writing of this. It may hit home if used in conjunction with the strategies already employed.

Anything that might work- it’s getting worse all the time 😔.

Why bother commenting? If you don’t care don’t open the thread, some people obviously care seen as there’s 2 pages of comments discussing it

It was heartbreaking, when he asked for his mum 💔 can't believe they've killed him off, one of the best young actors in it

But what's the harm of having an additional medium to help convey the message? I don't think anyone's suggesting schools aren't doing their bit, so your response seems a bit snippy.

Tinselinthewhoopsiebasket · 10/01/2025 13:40

The only experience I have of knife crime was a 40 + year old man. Knife crime isn't just for dc.... Hideous crime. Spineless and senseless. The actor who plays Mason is a local DJ's ds on our area. He must be proud..

No, we don't need additional help. If people watch it, good.
I just get a bit sick of people trying to tell schools and teachers what to do. Perhaps if a soap opera ran a storyline about a plane dealing with turbulence we could recommend that pilots watch it as part of their training?

I disagree that pp was telling schools what to do, they were making a suggestion. It's different.

I'm sure schools are doing a lot of work around this. I'd be surprised if they weren't. But the problem affects society as a whole and the more publicity the better, as far as I'm concerned. Until knife crime is under control we won't be able to say that schools, or society in general, 'don't need additional help'.

Yes, I agree with you, broadly, especially about the problem.
I just always question advice given to schools on here, which is often frustrating. "Why don't schools...?.why don't teachers....?" It's easy looking in from the outside, and when you're on the inside dealing with students who bring knives in, or are victims of knife crime, it seems simplistic.
However, I take it in the spirit in which it was intended. It's a serious problem 👍.
