DD’s car seat secures to the car with metal yellow clips that clip into the back of the passenger seat. It’s worked well and we used the buckles of the car seat.

She’s now outgrown these so we wanted to switch to the car seat belt. Problem is, the seat is too big to use the regular clicker for the seat belt as it covers where it needs to be clicked in and cannot be moved. I bought a seat belt extended but it didn’t fit the mental belt, it’s a funny shape and not the standard one (see pic).

Can anyone help me find a seat belt extender the seat belt can click in to (or another solution).

Attached are the pics of the seatbelt extender I bought. It clicks into the red but fine but my belt (in the pic in the first post) won’t click in at all.

What car seat is it that you have and how old is your DD?

Usually the kind where you change from using the car seat straps to the adult seatbelt is a high back booster and those are not usually too big for the seatbelt so I am struggling to picture what is going on. Do you mean that the booster seat is covering the buckle? Is that with the isofix (yellow clips) fixed in place?

Unfortunately you can't use a seatbelt extender with any car seat. Those are completely untested but also they are frequently a cause of buckle crunch which means if you were in a crash the buckle would be subject to a lot of force from the car seat frame, and could shatter.

That also looks possibly like one of the middle seatbelt buckles which come from the roof of the car and have to click into a buckle on each side, is that right? Or is it a normal seatbelt?

Yes the seatbelt is covered when the isofix clips are in place.

Does this mean I won’t be able to use that seat with her now? She’ll be gutted, she keeps asking when she can use it again!

If the base of the seat sits over the seatbelt buckle then it's not compatible. Some seats when you've put them into the high back booster mode, you don't need to use the isofix any more so you could check the manual and see if it says this is allowed, then if you can push the seat over so it's not sitting on top of the seatbelt any more then it would be fine. But if the shape of your vehicle seats means that it keeps sliding back or it doesn't fit right on the other side then it might not be able to be used in that seat in high back booster mode. You could try another seat in the car, as the positioning might be better. But if you can't get it to work then I'm afraid you will need a booster with a narrower base.
