Anyone managed to stop their cat running around their feet?

I have only had him a week, so it could still be him settling in. He's an elderly cat too so I don't think he'll grow out of it! But he constantly weaves around my feet when I walk which is cute, but I've accidentally stood on his paws a couple of times. Felt so guilty when he yowled in pain, and I do try to be careful but sometimes I just don't see him, especially if it's dark. I've also nearly tripped up a couple of times.
Is there anything that I could do to reduce this behaviour? I have another cat, and they have cat tv on demand, climbing places and so on. I'll let him out in a couple of weeks but keeping him in whilst he gets used to the home.

I think this will reduce over time. Some cats do do this anyway but I think he is probably just wanting to be close to you. Changing homes can be traumatic for cats and if he has decided you are OK he may want to be near you. Mine always turn into velcro cats for a day or two when I've been away.

He's unsettled and probably unsure of himself and you..just give him time to find his feet :)
(having said that, mine regularly tries to ensure my death in the stairs!)

Could you try to pick him up and carry him whenever you move around the house? Just for a bit until he becomes more settled?

My cat does this on stairs, I have to lift and shift him! He has not grown out of it.

No. One of my Dcats sadly died last year at a ripe old age after spending her life trying to get squashed / kicked / trip me over. She would sneak up so I wouldn't notice and I'd go flying or she'd get trodden on, but it never put her off. Good job we live in a flat and don't have stairs, that would have been even worse.

It was a way of getting attention so if I did see her in time I'd give her her a pet or pick her up, but of course that probably encouraged it. Also I don't wear shoes in the house, but that's all I can suggest.

Mine does that its a male cat 6 months old its all tension like alot of wonderful ladies have said. More comfort and bonding.

He's probably just being a bit clingy

Mine likes to hide in places then gets offending when I think he's a black jumper and pick him in to launch him into the laundry basket
I can hear him "am CAT, not jumper" Grin

One of mine does this all the time. I assume he is trying to kill me because he does not do it to his preferred human.....
