Cream sofa with children....

user16111111 · 05/01/2025 20:59

So just that really. I have fallen in love with a sofa but it is cream and I have young children...so my question is has anyone got a cream sofa with young children and it has lasted without getting filthy and stained? Or am I best just dreaming about it and getting another dark sofa?

The obvious answer is to use a throw. But then the sofa could be any colour really and you wouldnt know

Depends how much stress you like in your life. I wouldn't get one.

No chance 😅 unless you're one of those people who just won't let your kids in the living room

All kids are messy if they're allowed to be normal in a normal household.

No way sorry and I’m pretty strict on not eating messy foods/drawing etc. on the sofa. We also have throws covering ours - still has marks!

Lulubo1 · 05/01/2025 21:16

I have a 2.5yr old DD who hates being messy, asks for wet wipes if her hands her dirty when eating and even wipes up water she's spilt from her cup. I thought my cream armchair was safe until I left her with DH for 10mins and she drew all over the arm rest with a black biro pen when DD had his back turned. So annoying. Definitely get a throw hun!! 👍

How pale? We have oatmeal type colours in both living rooms, they're surviving ok but the kids only eat messy food at the table and know not to colour etc on the sofa. We had throws on the ones we had when they were babies.

I think I will leave it as a dream 😂 I don't want to moan at kids about a sofa when it was my idea to get one. It's their home too. Dark sofa with creams throws it is for now.

I still remember the drama caused when my then toddler brother encountered mum's cream sofa with a felt tip pen....

ineedacoffee222 · 06/01/2025 23:03

Even with a throwover, kids will find a way to stain it 🤣🤣🤣

MarchingInto2025 · 06/01/2025 23:08

I've had one for 7 years since youngest was 4. It's barely got a mark. We paid extra for some stain proof coating and the guarantee was basically that they'd come and remove any stain or replace fabrics if anything wasn't removed. We've never had to call in the guarantee because wiping with a damp cloth has got everything off. Usually tea/coffee rather than DC mess but there's been pasta sauce and all sorts. Never had a felt tip incident but I specifically remember this being mentioned that under the guarantee they could remove pen stains.

Just noooo……

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 07/01/2025 00:20

I had one before baby came along. It had removable covers. I kept throws and washed the covers as needed. It was fine.

EconomyClassRockstar · 07/01/2025 00:23

I always had a cream sofa when my kids were little. In fact, I was very much in my "cream and whites" stage back then. 😂Get a sofa that you can take the cover off and bung it in the washing machine and a nice throw for when you don't have time to actually do that.

Ours has washable covers (IKEA Ektorp) and has remained tidy-looking for close to 20 years, 14 of those with at least 1 DC.

KungFuSock · 07/01/2025 00:30

White sofas, now 5 years old. Dc were 8 and 3 at the time. They are leather so easy to wipe, as white as they were the day we purchased them...the ivory carpet has been the hardest to keep spotless 😂
