Been gifted a pop up shop for a while.
No rent.
What would you do either selling, service or community wise, but obviously making money. Thanks.

Mobile phone repairs as a front for laundering money?

Vape supplies as a front for laundering money?

Biscuits. Everyone loves biscuits.

Pop up shops are surely for businesses who already sell stuff e.g. online? I've never heard of someone getting one and then deciding what to sell in it!

Nope. I don't sell anything atm. I have been given a shop by someone to use as I like for a short time.
Have you any ideas?

Have you got the money to buy the stock.

OurDreamLife · 05/01/2025 16:00

Rent it out to someone else.

Pies

Presumably you'd need food hygiene certs and cooking experience to do food?

Vegetarian Mexican food.
Baked potatoes and loads of different fillings.
Dessert bar.
Local photography/art.

It's really rather hard for anyone to say without knowing what else is near by, whether you have any skills to market, if you have catering qualifications or what your budget is for stock. Do you mean you are being given a shop that is empty to do what you like with or a market stall type arrangements? Probably lots more questions but they are just the immediate ones that spring to mind if you were considering a business plan

backaftera2yearbreak · 05/01/2025 16:04

What occasions are coming up? Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Easter? Something themed around those as that’s a time people tend to buy stuff?

Iloveeverycat · 05/01/2025 16:05

I would have thought too much paper work for food. Hygiene ratings and certificates.
Same if you make candles, soap and bath bombs

MayaPinion · 05/01/2025 16:07

Valentine’s Day stuff - cards, teddies, bubble bath, key rings, keep sakes, pens, heart shaped erasers, bath bombs, tins, earrings, chocolates, objets, and the like.

Germanjio · 05/01/2025 16:08

What can you buy cheap then sell on, which might appeal to the local market?

So, in a tourist area get a job lot of trinkets relevant to the town. If it's a family area get some interesting baby stuff (or whatever).

I suspect starting to make candles or similar if you've never done it before is a fast way to losing everything you invest.

lightsandtunnels · 05/01/2025 16:09

Could you offer out to local artists to show their work for a small fee and then you take a percentage of the sales. You could run a small cafe alongside it.
Depends really how much money you want/need to make and how long you have the shop for?

Or something seasonal like Easter related?

Sorry not food.
Yes I could buy some stock.
I'm in a residential area. Other shops and houses around.

Easter eggs and Valentine's cards and Valentine's chocolates seems the obvious choice for now

Iloveeverycat · 05/01/2025 16:12

How long is it for. What if you have loads of stock left when they want the shop back.

Madcats · 05/01/2025 16:14

What amenities are in the shop and what sort of demographic and/or area is it in? I mean:

What sort of planning consents does it already have and would you need to change them?

Do you want to make £££'s or would you like to offer a warm space for, perhaps, computer literacy?

Are you in a busy walk-through area or do you need to advertise to let people know you are up and open in whatever venue?

I THINK you might have written that you can have a "pop-up" shop for a few months, but you have no stock and are not sure what to sell?

It's hard to tell...

BettyBardMacDonald · 05/01/2025 16:15

Need more info about location, size etc. how much are you able to invest in inventory? How long will you have the shop? Is it indoors or out?

People often are willing to spend money on pets even when they're tightened their own purse strings.

Pet toys, sweaters, grooming aids, personalized dishes, beds, etc. or fresh made treats

Gardeners too can't resist a new tool, seed starting kits, seeds, other paraphernalia

PassingStranger · 05/01/2025 16:17

Indoors, could I sell other people's stuff and take a cut.
People who can't be bothered to sell their own stuff on Vinted etc?

If not merchandise, can you find someone to do clothed 15-min shoulder massage or other pampering / healing services?

Temporary tattoos?
