Im an ANP in a GP surgery and I dont think the role is valued or appreciated. On the one hand patients moan that im not a Dr, and on the other Drs moan about the ANP job role existing. Im just so tired and bored of it all, and think about leaving.

My daily work is running an ANP emergency list, which really consists of any single, acute, undifferentiated problem. So things like chest infections, urine infections, simple dermataology issues, acute abdomens etc etc. I could go on but I think that illustrates my daily work fairly well. The more complex stuff goes to the duty GP.

Im just...tired.

Sorry for the typos

Just musing, I have no idea if our surgery has any ANP's. We see nurses or the gp. No info on the medical staff given and I had no idea it was a thing. It sounds a good idea but I agree it should not be used to 'replace' gp's. Each have their own, very necessary, part to play.

I’m reaching out to all ANP’s working in G.P practice for their job descriptions as I’ve newly qualified in this role and have been asked to do a lot of non clinical work on top of my normal minor illness clinics such as handling complaints, chairing monthly clinical meetings for the whole surgery alongside the role of senior nurse to nursing staff including their holiday and sickness, appraisals and giving educational sessions. All while not being given any non clinical time to prepare or do this outside of my clinics. I get 30mins admin at the end of my day and have been advised everything should be done then?
what are other ANP’s doing as I’m sure this is asking too much!

Handling complaints is done by the partners. Chairing clincial meetings is done by one of the other sessional GPs. Although I personally dont do it, team lead for the practice nurses sounds about right.

Sounds a lot like you've been given work that nobody else wants too do.

Im actually shocked the practice are letting you handle complaints and chair clinical meetings. You need GP level clincial knowledge to do this. Without meaning to do be rude, who are you to pass judgement on if GPs are doing their jobs well and reaching clinical standards? We're trained in a tiny part of every day clinical practice. To do those things comprehensively you need a good knowledge of it all.

Why don’t you break it up with a bit of lecturing. Students will love you because you’re hands on with an amazing knowledge base and it will give you some variety.
