What was the outcome of the folk that felled the sycamore gap tree?

I'm sure a couple of folk were arrested but I've never heard anything about it since!

I can't get my head around that it wasn't a drunken escapade and on the spur of the moment, which would have been bad enough but the two accused are working men with families/children and they sat down and planned it and then drove for forty minutes before felling the tree.

The tree had no impact on their lives and there was no glory to be had from doing it.

It beggars belief that they thought they could get away with it after carelessly texting others.

Were they expecting anyone to say well done, because I can't think of anyone other than these two who would think cutting down a 150 year old tree in a beauty spot was anything g but downright diabolical.

Me too! I couldn’t believe it when I read that they were in their thirties and not teenagers! Just why?

Being destructive is so easy! I hope they get sent to prison where every day they have to build a road or something that takes infinite patience and strength. Then they might get to understand the value of things.

I imagine the pair are as thick as mince and thought it would be a hilarious stunt to impress their friends. Obviously couldn’t put two and two together to realise the public outrage it would (rightly) cause.

I do not understand our justice system. Someone I have the misfortune to know was sentenced last week to 3yrs 6mths for a number of offences against children. But 2 dickheads who cut down a tree get longer. I really just don't get it.

Well that was weird. Was just watching the main national evening news here in Germany while simultaneously reading your comment when this story was mentioned. They got 4years and 2 months?
