Now I’m just asking for advice im
not saying my son needs a diagnosis. He’s only just 3! I only ask as I have Asperger’s, I’m a 27yo woman and got diagnosed at 13 after it being suspected for years

To bullet point:

  • DS has meltdowns easily he gets very overwhelmed and overstimulated easily
  • doesnt like dress up play or getting dressed in general, I notice when I put certain things on him he tells me he dislikes the feel of it (his zip on his coat being by his neck being a main one)
  • speech is l better but delayed / he’s been referred to salt for speech sounds
  • hes quite good at mingling in nursery the staff say, some say quite ‘shy’ when other staff walk in that he hasn’t seen for a while (e.g someone from baby room as he’s in pre school so he doesn’t really see them) but outside of nursery is very very ‘shy’. When we go to groups like rhyme time he sits at the side doing his own thing and doesn’t want to join in and interact

Now again I’m not insisting he is on the spectrum, I only ask as I’ve just noticed some things. And I want to be fully aware so I can help him growing up if that’s the case and I heard if you’re on the spectrum it’s likely a child of yours can be too

He is certainly more likely to be autistic than other children because you are, and those could be traits of autism but equally might not be! Have you spoken to your health visitor? They wouldn't diagnose him with Asperger's these days, just autism.

I'd say all of those things could be totally expected of a three year old. And zips at the top of coats are horrible if pressing into your jaw/neck. However, I'd keep an eye out in case you see more things that paint a more complete picture so that you can get him extra support if he needs it.

My son has been diagnosed with Autism at 3.

He does sound similar to him. If you are concerned, contact the GP and take it from there.
