The best, most luxurious resort you have ever been to for a holiday?

Currently browsing TUI all inclusive options and I am surprised how many 5 start rated hotels have low ratings on Tripadvisor. There is clearly a gap between expectations and perceptions. This made me wonder if anyone has been on a package holiday at a resort they cannot fault in any way?

Qsar al Sarab

I agree with a previous poster that it is important to read the poor reviews.
It is amazing how many reviews for hotels in India complain they serve Indian food for example.

We went to Unico 20 87 in Riviera Maya in September 2020. It was during COVID so things were a little different but it was amazing. Restaurants with menus instead of those awful buffets, no children, very nice rooms, very luxurious. I’d definitely go back.

The star system can also be misleading- the holiday companies are basically operating their own star system which rates their properties against each other and indicates certain standards but which isn’t consistent with the international star system.

Secrets Akumal in Mexico, fantastic service good choice of a la carte restaurants and beautiful resort.

Booked to go next door to the Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness- is it a nice area?

For me the Oberoi Lombok on my honeymoon was my favourite I think.

Any of the Aman hotels - although we chose Raffles Bali (amazing) over the Aman property on the island because of the most recent reviews (this was post lock down). One and only’s are also excellent - But I don’t think you’ll find them on Tui or similar. The Royal Mansour in Marrakesh is fabulous.

Have a look at BA holidays for inspiration if you want someone to book the flights for you as a package - BA are changing their rewards programme so spend level becomes a priority rather than flight distance- this might work for you? Or Kuoni?

Where do you fancy going?

Also loved Kuramathi in the Maldives.

i think Six Senses, Four Seasons must all be amazing too but never stayed in any. My friend loved the Oberoi in Indonesia, it was very cheap too (£200 a night for a huge room).

Rosewood Mayakoba Mexico was really excellent

Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman. Absolutely gorgeous and I had an amazing pre-natal massage in the spa.

This hotel is amazing! The all you can eat weekend brunch buffet is honestly one of heh best things I have ever done. And I had the best steak I’ve ever had there as well.

Have never stayed in a 5 star, as haven't the budget. We stay in 4 star ones that are 4.5/5 on trip adviser. Wonder how the 5 star ones with poorer reviews conpare to those. I do take some reviews with a pinch of salt though, some people have different opinions. The last hotel we stayed in Tenerife. There are a few negative reviews about the food, I thought it was great.

Moon Palace Mexico

I'd also give the Moon Palace a vote. The food / reastaurants are amazing as are the Jacuzzis in the rooms.

Sorry, you wont find any ULTRA luxury resorts in a TUI brochure or all inclusive.

Stayed at Burj al Arab many times and that was fabulous service.

Constance Prince Maurice Mauritius.

Yes Tui doesn’t even use stars it uses Ts

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 05/01/2025 09:01

Bab Al Shams in Dubai was amazing,we didn't do AI but the food was amazing.

But you won't find what you want in a brochure. If I want luxurious I wouldn't go on a package holiday.

KimFan · 05/01/2025 09:04

Kuramathi, Maldives. But this wasn’t from a brochure.

IggysPop · 05/01/2025 09:13

It’s expectations I guess. We want quiet and relaxation on our holidays, and tend to go for smaller and more ‘adult’ oriented places. Not adult only as we have teenagers. I have had 5* experiences feel less than when there have been lots of families with small children. They’re just being small children (loud and excited) but it’s not what I want from a luxury experience. I would swerve booking through Tui for this reason.

We went to Morocco in October and stayed at at the Riu Tikida Beach in Agadir booked via Tui - absolutely not as luxe as some mentioned here but was really good.

Decor was fabulous, service really attentive and although AI buffet the food was amazing! Pool area was clean and there didn't seem to be a scramble for loungers or the double sun beds. Spa was great too!

It was adults only though.

The Melia in Cape Verde was really nice too - although the buffet food was a bit crap, the restaurants were fab. The rooms, pool and beach terrace were lovely.

We've stayed at the Riu Tikida Royal Palace, Agadir many times, which is a few doors further up, as it is for families, and never been disappointed.
Agree its not super luxe but a lovely hotel and excellent value for money.

We like it , you can snorkel with the turtles directly of the beach and there is a small town with a few shops and restaurants, i have never felt unsafe wandering around
