Manchester or Barcelona for a city break ?

itssocoldd · 03/01/2025 23:30

Me and my partner are thinking of having a few nights away end of the month.
We had decided on Manchester (we are from Newcastle )but have just found flights to Barcelona for £30 return and the hotel is only £240 for 3 nights

What would you do ?
I can't decide ?
I've never been to Barcelona so won't know my way around

RudolfIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/01/2025 23:32

Is this a serious question?!

Obviously Barcelona!

Violetparis · 03/01/2025 23:32

Easy choice - Barcelona !

Redcrayons · 03/01/2025 23:33

Barcelona.

Have you been to Manchester?

itssocoldd · 03/01/2025 23:33

Yes 🤣I love Manchester but have never been to Spain on a city break.

Erm....no contest. Go to Barcelona. Half the fun of going somewhere new is being able to explore. Use Google maps, look up an free online walking tour guide or order a guide book, or just search Barecelona travel blogs.

Fedupwithteenagers24 · 03/01/2025 23:33

Ooh tricky. Barcelona!

RogueFemale · 03/01/2025 23:33

You have to ask?! Barcelona.

ForeverTipsy · 03/01/2025 23:34

What they said.

Barcelona!

Dartmoorcheffy · 03/01/2025 23:35

Barcelona, there's just no debate there in my view and I'm originally from Manchester.

You have all twisted my arm
£30 return is brilliant isn't it
That's no luggage just the basic small bag

Barcelona! It's hard to believe that anyone would be unsure of which would make for a more pleasant city break!

Latenightreader · 03/01/2025 23:37

Are there lots of add ons with the flights? I found 'bargain' flights from Dusseldorf to Stansted for £24, which went up considerably by the end of the process (I'm now going by eurostar).

That being said, I love Manchester and hate flying, so know which I'd prefer...

Undrugged · 03/01/2025 23:39

The small bag is enough for a weekend break providing you don’t need to pack a gazillion outfits.

and yes, obviously Barcelona. Such a brilliant city and there’s a chance you might get some actual sun while there. It is also: cheaper, more interesting; and has better food, nightlife, galleries and transport. In my experience.

itssocoldd · 03/01/2025 23:39

There's only add ones if you pay for luggage or seats
We aren't fussy for 2 hours that we won't be together as long as we get there

Get an underground map for Barcelona as well! And remember it's as much Catalan as Spanish for road signs and so on. (Ask for the castellano version of menus if you gave to.)

Bluelagoondrmr · 03/01/2025 23:40

Spain but don't forget about travel insurance.

Undrugged · 03/01/2025 23:41

I wouldn’t pay for seats or luggage either. Total waste of money. Chances are you might be able to sit together anyway and even if not it’s a lovely opportunity to read a book or have a doze.

theduchessofspork · 03/01/2025 23:43

Eh?!

Barcelona of course

Barcelona....I've been three times, you can walk to lots of places so long as your hotel is not too far out. It's very beautiful and the sea food feast at port Olympic is fabulous. Get your selves holster wallets to go under your jackets, bags can be a target. I went at Christmas, it's warm in the day, need a jumper or jacket at night. Sagrada familia is stupendous. Many other great things too. Don't get me wrong, I love Manchester too. But oh that Andalusian sun! Go for it my friend.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 03/01/2025 23:47

Oh my god! BARCELONA!!!!
Absolutely no question!

artohmyletmehelp · 03/01/2025 23:49

Just go and get a guide book. There are loads of tourist guides too. Park Guell and casa batlo... be sure to look up the fruit and veg market and the old pre Olympic market square....think I might be that guide...lol

Maddy70 · 03/01/2025 23:54

I honestly love both Manchester and Barcelona but given the choice Barcelona every time
