Can't find school trousers for my disabled child gahhh

Boys school trousers help! I am really struggling to find my disabled child some trousers, he's grown out of his last size. He needs:
Black
Age 12
Adjustable waist
Straight leg - they CAN'T be slim as we have to fit splints underneath.

I find that the easy fit trousers (pull up) have wider legs but I can't find any in his size 🙄 it's so annoying!

We've tried:
Marks and Spencers - don't fit properly
Next - their straight leg trousers aren't straight they are slim gahhh
Matalan - the ones with the better size legs only go up to age eleven

Can anyone who has trousers from shops such as Sainsburys, Asda, or anywhere else let me know if they have straight legs? They have to be properly straight ie the same width as the thighs. Imagine that they will need thick shin pads underneath. Got to get these by Monday!

I know you said no to m and s but have you looked at their accessible range?

Sherrystrull · 03/01/2025 15:24

Asda have a good selection of plus fit which are wider on the leg. Generally available only online

Primark has some pants with adjustable waist. I don't know about the leg width, though.
Perhaps there is something for you.
You can look at the website and it has a function to check for stock in your selected store, so you'll know before you waste a trip.
Amazon might have options, too.

Sainsbury's TU clothing range is great. School trousers are good quality, and black, age 12 is in stock

Amazon sturdy fit trousers are brilliant. I do sometimes need to alter the leg length but they are very comfy

OP, can't help with suggestions, but at the school I work at we would definitely make an exception to the uniform rules if it was impossible to get the correct trousers due to a disability. Could you keep looking and also contact the school on Monday to explain the situation? Most schools round here have a teacher training day on Monday. Good luck!

As has been suggested: ASDA. (George!)

They have elasticated waist trousers - and jeggings.

Good luck!

M&S plus range still have adjustable waist I don’t think they are slim leg but my older son is quite solid and needs the bum space, also can he wear joggers, my son has Sen and they have a alternative uniform to suit needs. Good luck though we buy special seamless other stuff items etc it’s not always easy

Is the main issue that they need to be wide enough on the calf/ankle to fit something like an AFO (ankle foot orthotics)/splint?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/01/2025 15:53

Next do a range of different fits. DS needs wider legs, he’s not overweight but we find their plus fit is perfect. Might be width a try.

Otherwise our local uniform shop stocks Trutex which always seem to be on the looser side.

Thanks yes these are the ones we've used for years, sadly he's grown out of his current size and strangely we are now finding that the crotch area is way too shallow so the waistband is too low down if you see what I mean.

I have no idea how I missed the plus size on their website, thanks!!

Yes this is the main issue. We ideally need ones that are pull on as he will struggle with the zip and hook fastening, but we can see how he gets on with that if the leg was ok.

Thank you! Yes we normally get those m&s ones but the crotch is now too shallow - I didn't realise they did plus size!

Thanks so much. The school have been good and said he can wear black joggers but bless him he wants the smart trousers so they go with his blazer 😂 but yes I will send him in with the joggers if necessary.
