Teeth - teenage canines not erupting

Anyone had experience of this?

Xrays show the canines are in good position but they just aren’t erupting (baby teeth gone) and the orthodontist wants to ‘draw them down’ so my teen can have twin blocks fitted .

But I’m nervous about whether drawing down healthy teeth can I negative impacts - does anyone know?

I can’t have a sensible conversation with this orthodontist but as we spent 2 years on the waiting list to see him I don’t have option of a second opinion IRL unfortunately.

Not exactly the same situation but my daughter had a canine tooth that had developed in the roof of her mouth. She had surgery to expose the tooth and then the dentist attached a chain to it and over time it was literally pulled into the correct position. I think she’d had a brace to increase the space for it to move into. She was 14 at the time (16 years ago) and it was very successful up until the point that her retainer cracked and she didn’t go back to the orthodontist for a replacement.
She did Invisalign years later to good effect.

One of DDs canines hasn't come down.

It's not in a terrible position but it's not quite straight so she has had a brace fitted and is having the surgery in a couple of weeks to expose the tooth, and like the PP, attach a chain to gently draw it down.

There is no other option really as far as my research went.

My son had two canines growing into the roof of his mouth, completely the wrong way around, and has had them pulled down with chains.

Our options were (a) leave them and damage the roots of other teeth, (b) remove them and have crowns fitted, or (c) chains and brace. We went for c and it has been very successful.

Thanks all - good to know that the chains caused no problems, I guess my concern wasis that as his teeth are not growing in the wrong direction, is it better to leave it to come down on its own? But then he needs the twin block … I’ll probably agree to it, just wish we had a orthodontist who it’s better comms skills so I could talk it through with her
