Help/tips for booking flights

Looking to book flights Edinburgh > Bristol return in the summer, but it's been 10+ years since we've flown so I'm sure things have changed! Back then, we were young, carefree and adventurous. Now we're are old (or feel it at least!) tired and with an autistic child.

It's likely to be Easy Jet from what I've looked at so far. We will definitely need to be seated together. 2 adults, 1 child.

Any tips? Best times to book for cheapest options, return or 2x one way, book direct or via a third party type things...

Also any inside knowledge for things like special assistance etc. at these airports? It'll be our child's first flight hence a short trip.

Oh to be young, carefree and adventurous again!

If you’re going this summer I’d get on with booking. Maybe watch the flight prices for a few weeks to see the movement. Sadly you’ve just missed Boxing Day sales.

heads up, the flight cost is JUST the flight. You’ll have to pay extra to select seats and select them together (do not leave this to chance if you need to sit together, some airlines actively separate you if you don’t pay), your luggage then costs extra whether you take a carry on (cheaper) or put a 20kg back in the hole. Just consider both these costs essential and part of the flight cost.

google the airports and the airlines special assistance to see what they offer/how to book (I’m unfamiliar I’m afraid). However if your sun has a sunflower lanyard I reccomend wearing this, the airports do respect this. There’s often a special assistance line for security which you can use. However we used it going to Paris from Manchester with the kids last summer and I’d have hated to been in the regular queue as we were in the security queue for over an hour.

take anything that comfort/helps your child in hand luggage (be that headphones etc), and keep all liquids and medication in a clear ziplock bag easily accessed for security. No drinks can go through though you can take an empty water bottle if you want to fill up air side.

bear booking direct, I always have. And return will be cheaper than 2 singles usually but do some trial runs

final tip is if you’re looking at flights, do it in “incognito” mode on your phone or delete cookies. If you keep going back to same we. Page the webpage recognises this and maintains the prices, so I’m told!

In my experience with Easy Jet, we have never paid to book seats together, flown many times to many destinations, including Edinburgh. If you use the app, you can monitor how many seats are selected when you book, and after. If you then check in online as soon as that is available, 30 days before, we have always been sat together and there are 3 of us, and the seat pattern is 3 3 across the aisle. This has worked fine multiple times. Just checking in the minute online check-in is open. Edinburgh is fab. We particularly liked camera obscura, I hope you have a great trip.

Easyjet is often fine as long as you check on as soon as it opens. Leaving it to the night before us when people are split up.
