Help! Haemmeroid surgery misery and confusion 😭

Any medics or fellow sufferers able to advise me please? I am so confused and miserable!

I went to a private hospital (under NHS but was at a private hospital) for haemmeroid surgery in mid-Nov. Under sedation as a day case. Surgeon said he could only remove one as he "would've run out of anal tissue" otherwise 😳
Was called back (to local hospital this time) for a follow-up sigmoidoscopy, also under sedation. At the same time, same surgeon also banded 3 more haemmeroids.

After 1st operation I was in absolute agony, off work for 3 weeks, quite a lot of bleeding... absolutely horrible but glad I'd got it removed as it was affecting my confidence. Was sleeping loads, as I guess I was recovering from a wound. And generally had to "take it easy". Am still napping in the day-time as on a phased return but finding work level set my occupational health too much I think: I am absolutely exhausted and feel rubbish.

2nd procedure was v uncomfortable but was on a Friday and was back at work on the Monday, was worried about how much time I'd been off work if I'd not already been off I think I'd have been off for a few days as it was horrible. The pain wore off however a few weeks after I started having a lot of blood, with little bright red clots. Rang outpatients, who'd said to call them if needed about any aftercare. They said they can't speak to me without a new referral from my GP! Which totally contradicted what they had said when I was there! Spoke to GP who said to try the surgeon's secretary otherwise he can make a referral but that might take time. Secretary obviously couldn't give medical advice but gave me an appt with surgeon - in late April! And gave me the number of a ward to call. Called the ward and felt a bit silly as it turned out it was some kind of emergency line (it was a mobile number). The nurse I spoke to was v nice and said that banding can take months to work.
When I was in outpatients they said (and the leaflet they gave me also said) banded haemmeroids should drop off between 3 and 14 days!! Nurse laughed when I said this and told me it was completely wrong. She then suggested emailing surgeon and asking secretary to give me an appt sooner as apparently the surgeon will try and squeeze in patients if they are worried etc.

Has anyone else had haemerroid banding? How long did it take for them to shrivel and die??
Has anyone else had a haemmeroid/s removed surgically? How long did it take you to feel better? I don't know anyone who's had it in real life to ask.

Thank you.

Oh no! That sounds horrific. I’ve had haemorrhoids banded, some time ago, pre children. I would have been about 25. I have had it done twice with quite different recoveries. First time was not too bad, I think I had a day off work, and it passed within a few days. The other took a little longer and was more painful. I had both done in outpatients whilst awake/no pain relief etc. there was quite a bit of blood when they separated.

I have external haemorrhoids left over from pregnancy. I’ve never done anything about those as I saw a surgeon when my youngest was about 2. He said that recovery is generally horrific and that the kids needed to be older and self sufficient. I’ve not gone back because I’ve read a few horror threads on here about the recovery and whilst they are not ideal I don’t think I can handle the recovery right now.

Thanks for your reply! Yes I saw the thread too!! I don't think if I had read it beforehand I would have had it done...
Were the ones you had banded external or internal? I've absolutely convinced myself that the bands have fallen off or something.
