Your thread title could be the plot of a porno..
Yes, I know it's a typo, and I'm not being pedantic. It just tickled me!

Some people say Candlemas, which is 2 February (40 days after Christmas)

JennyTals · 02/01/2025 11:13

It would be interesting to see if those who complain about misfortune in the coming months are those who whipped their decorations down on boxing day. ( lighthearted)

Parker231 · 02/01/2025 11:29

You don’t get bad luck based on the date you take your Christmas decorations down.

Billybagpuss · 02/01/2025 11:30

In the current climate just say they’re up for next year.

Redrosesposies · 02/01/2025 11:32

Well you are not actually supposed to put them up until Christmas Eve so if they were up before then you are already going to get bad luck no matter when you take them down.
Mine go up the weekend before Christmas and come down on New Year's Day.
Who decided anyway?

I can't believe in this day and age some people still think you can alter the course of your life, based on when you take your inflatable Santa down! 😳🤣

garlictwist · 02/01/2025 11:40

12th night is actually the evening of the 5th. But bad luck doesn't exist so don't worry!

Inflatable Santas go down by themselves don’t they? Xmas Grin excuse the wording!

We’ll see as we’ve already took our down

Twelfth Night is actually from nightfall on 5th Jan to sunrise on 6th (Epiphany Day or the Twelfth Day of Christmas). This is how days were counted in the middle ages, starting with sundown. This is why "Christmas Eve" is thus called as once darkness fell it was the start of Christmas Day. Much of Europe have their gifts and festive meal on the evening of Christmas Eve.

Sorry, digressed! The decs should be down by sunrise on Epiphany/6th OR any that remain must stay up until Candlemas, 2 Feb, if you're superstitious.

We take ours down gradually between 2nd and 5th, although the nativity set remains up until Candlemas, as the three kings only arrive in it on Epiphany Day so I let them stay longer since they're late to the party!

RosesAndHellebores · 02/01/2025 12:22

Before bed-time on 5th.
Ours will start to come down today because we have a busy weekend planned. X
