How do I go about getting my hearing tested?!

I am only 33 but feel like I can’t hear properly at times and would like to get it checked out.

I feel like I’m asking people to repeat themselves a lot and need subtitles on the TV.

initially I booked an appointment with specsavers but had to cancel it as something come up. I thought this would be the easiest solution and planned to rebook.

however, I am just having a look on the specsavers website and it says to see the GP if you feel like you have new hearing issues.

is it best to go through GP or specsavers?

also on the chance I did have hearing issues how much do aids cost. I don’t think it’s that bad yet but my grandfather had hearing issues from a relatively young age! My grandmother however now in her 80s can hear a pin drop still!!

I also have TMJD which can cause a lot of pain around my jaw joint and ear, almost like pressure.

Boots Hearingcare. They will liaise with your GP. Decent in-ear hearing aids are £1200+ per side but you can get the cheaper behind the ear ones.

Specsaveres also do hearing checks and there are 'hearing centers' on quite a few high streets Google what is local to you.
Saw your Specsavers comment, you can rebook easily .
Drs ( in my area not sure about everywhere ) don't deal with earwax and it's about £70

As you have a condition which causes you jaw pain and pressure around the ear I would be inclined to talk to your GP first who may refer you for a consultant appt. Also if it’s related to your health condition you may be able to get hearing aids on the NHS. It may be that your ears are just blocked with wax of course!

Go to GP first given your health condition

Depending on where you live it can take time for a GP to refer you to your local hospital department - where your hearing aids and batteries will be free. The RNID does an online hearing test - have a look at their website. well done for doing something - its not easy to take the first step
