Jewellery ideas for a new mum

My husbands dd, who I'm close to has just had a baby and as it's our first grandchild and I'm incredibly proud of how she managed during the birth, I'd like to start a new tradition of buying some jewellery for new mums in the family.

Any ideas of what would be lovely? She likes silver and she's also quite spiritual, and creative.

She's had a lovely baby girl if that helps.

I'm a FTM to an 11 month old and barely wear jewellery now as my son will grab at even a pair of studs. .

When I'm not with him I have started wearing my basic jewellery and will do when I'm back at work. I'm thinking of buying myself a vintage art deco style emerald and diamond ring.

At the time I would have loved lovely pyjamas with pockets, and non-slip sheepskin-lined slippers.

A necklace or bracelet with the babies birth stone?

I'd go for an elasticated style so that it is easy to take on and off, you don't mention a budget but have a look at Annie Haak.

Thank you for your ideas.

I want something that she can keep and use for a long time, she will be getting plenty of practical presents from us and others.

I'll check out the recommendations thanks again

How about starting an old fashioned charm bracelet? Something you can add to for birthdays/Christmas etc. I don't mean Pandora or Troll but something more traditional if you know what I mean?

I have a charm bracelet with my babies initial and birthstone and a necklace with my babies initial. You can have babies fingerprint turned into a necklace. I have loads of links if you'd like any, while I was looking for mine x

If you want to choose a special silver piece for this new mum, consider a custom necklace with the baby's name or a bracelet engraved with the baby's birth date. These gifts are highly personal and full of sentimental value. Alternatively, you could go for a mother-and-baby-themed pendant to express the warmth of motherhood, or silver jewelry featuring moon, star, or lotus motifs to match her spiritual and artistic personality. For something more creative, a charm anklet with a small bell or an angel wing brooch could also be great options. These pieces are not only practical but also convey your heartfelt wishes and love.

I inherited my mum’s charm bracelet, it is beautiful - I used to be entranced when my mum told me the stories of where each charm came from (each one had a story and most had been bought my my gran).

I think that would be a lovely memento even if it isn’t worn regularly.

Another idea could be to pick a theme - eg The Tree of Life, or Mother of Pearl - and then the jewellery centres that theme. So you might get beautiful filigree silver tree of life earrings for dgc1’s arrival, then a bangle with a little tree of life for dgc2 etc.

I'm sorry but I can't get over the fact that you want to buy a present because you are proud of her for how she managed the birth. Would you not buy a gift for someone you didn't consider to have managed the birth well?

Personally, I think it's a bit of a naff idea.

Livedandlearned · 03/01/2025 22:44

I don't mind if you think it's a naff idea, I want to show her my love with a gift.

Thank you to everyone else, you've given me some lovely ideas.
