Can anyone help me figure out a charge on my online banking that says Google*ads followed by some numbers

I just checked online banking and there was a charge today at 15.01 that says Google*ads and it was followed by a number. It said it was a purchase and it's pending. It's for 5.72 pounds.

It's just I don't remember buying anything. I checked my email account and their is no confirmation of a purchase. I did ha e a long lie in today and I got up at about 3.15 pm. I did some jobs before I had breakfast at about 3.55 pm.

I am addicted to game on my phone and I am playing a lot of it. There are a lot of ads and stuff and extras for the game. I don't ever buy any extras. I think today while I was in between rounds something came up on my screen and I was nearly brought to a page to purchase something but I pressed cancel but I can't remember what time that was. I wonder would it have been that? This thing says pending on my account. I wonder will it go through or will it fall off.

Now I checked my Google play account and even my Google account and I checked out subscriptions and purchases but I don't see anything there.

Has anyone else experienced similar? I don't remember buying anything.

Ok I clicked on the game and as per usual and ad shows at first and then after that a promotion page shows with 'remove ads' but that is priced at 6.49 pounds.

The charge on my banking says it's 5.72

Google charges on the 1st of the month for any subscriptions you have. Could it be something you have subscribed to? I bought the extra storage and it comes up as Google play and confuses me every time.

Contact your bank or at least freeze /cancel. Your card if you can. A few weeks a go I had something similar happen. I had a PayPal transaction of £1.62 go out, then another one a few minutes later. I contacted my bank and they cancelled my card, because I knew that card wasn’t linked to my PayPal account. Over the next week over 30 declined transactions were attempted of increasingly large amounts. My bank refunded the £3 but it was quite disconcerting because I don’t know how my bank card details were leaked.

Thank you for your reply.

Ok, I checked again. I can't see any subscriptions. There's some old stuff in the history. My account says: you don't have any active subscriptions.

I checked budget and history section and there was no purchases made in December. Last purchase was in October but it wasn't a subscription.

I checked my online banking and there was nothing from my account on the 1st of December.

There seems to be something called 'google ads'.

I don't even use that service.

That is going to be a pain the hole. Yes, I got scammed before and they start off small.

I would cancel my card asap if it was genuinely something that I couldn't remember or figure out. If it is a scam/hack, they have done it once and will do it again. Worst thing that happens is you find out you've unwittingly signed up or purchased something and lost £6- best case is you've prevented losing lots of money to hackers.

But check first if you have a DP/DC just in case they've used your card or have it linked to their phone.

I had this with amazon prime. Already had a subscription. Then another came out followed by another. Called bank they blocked it. Over 40 attempted.
Apparently scammers use known brands to scam as people don't think anything of it at 1st. By time they realise it's too late.

I will cancel. I just found another purchase yesterday for 10 pounds.

Can I do it online.

Or do I contact the 24 post and stolen number

I rang the number on the back of the card. She was able to look into it more. Apparently there was another goodle ads purchase made on the 28th of December too but it was reversed so I didn't see it come up in my online banking. Or it didn't go through.

The fact that there's three of them made during a few days - it's definitely a scam.

The card is frozen and I will need to contact the bank in the morning to do the fraud stuff and cancel the card and get a new one.

Scammers are filthy scumbags and so calculated. Like you said they use common names so you are less likely to see it or you wouldn't think anything of it. Also the the dates of purchases - 28th of Dec, 30, 31st of December - all done during Christmas holidays where I am hibernating in front of a Christmas feast and movies and not paying any attention to my online banking.
